The Northern Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of 32 military personnel in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Chairman of the forum and Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, described the crash as a devastating national tragedy and commiserated with President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian Air Force, the Armed Forces and the families of the fallen personnel.

Yahaya’s condolence message was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director-General of Press Affairs at the Gombe State Government House, Ismaila Misilli.

The governor said the deaths underscored the enormous sacrifices routinely made by members of the Armed Forces in defending Nigeria and protecting its citizens.

According to him, the victims paid the ultimate price in the line of duty, leaving behind a legacy of courage, patriotism and service to the nation.

Yahaya commended the Federal Government for its swift response to the tragedy, particularly President Tinubu’s directive for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash and the deployment of search-and-rescue personnel.

He also praised the President for declaring three days of national mourning and directing that the national flag be flown at half-mast in honour of the deceased military personnel.

The NGF chairman described the measures as a fitting tribute to the fallen heroes and an important recognition of their sacrifices.

Yahaya extended his condolences to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, as well as officers, airmen and airwomen of the Nigerian Air Force and the families, friends and colleagues of the victims.

“We pray Almighty God to grant repose to the souls of the fallen heroes and give their families, colleagues and the entire Armed Forces the strength and fortitude to bear this monumental loss,” he said.

The governor urged Nigerians to continue praying for members of the Armed Forces, particularly those serving in dangerous and challenging environments across the country.

He said the nation must honour the memory of the deceased by recognising their sacrifice and supporting the men and women who continue to risk their lives in the service of Nigeria.
