Nigeria has stepped up efforts to attract Spanish investment into its blue economy, with the Nigerian Ambassador to Spain, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, participating in the opening of the 2026 International Frozen Seafood Exhibition, CONXEMAR, in Vigo, Galicia, Spain.

Ikpeazu attended the opening ceremony of the 27th edition of CONXEMAR on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, at the IFEVI Exhibition Centre in Vigo.

CONXEMAR is one of the world’s major trade fairs dedicated to the frozen seafood industry, bringing together businesses, government officials and stakeholders across the fisheries, aquaculture, marine and related sectors.

The opening ceremony was attended by the President of the Xunta de Galicia, senior representatives of the Spanish Government, the President of CONXEMAR, the Mayor of Vigo, members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, business leaders and other stakeholders in the fisheries and aquaculture industries.

The Nigerian envoy also held side engagements with officials of CONXEMAR and representatives of several companies participating in the exhibition.

The companies included firms operating in packaging, marine services and fisheries-related industries.

The engagements, according to the Nigerian Embassy in Spain, form part of ongoing efforts to promote Nigeria’s blue economy and attract Spanish investment into the country.

The interactions also provided an opportunity to highlight investment opportunities in Nigeria’s fisheries, aquaculture and wider maritime sectors, while exploring areas of potential cooperation between Nigerian and Spanish businesses.

Nigeria has identified the blue economy as an area with potential for economic diversification, job creation and increased investment, with fisheries, aquaculture and maritime-related industries forming part of the sector.

Ikpeazu’s participation at CONXEMAR 2026 further underscores the Embassy’s efforts to use trade and investment platforms in Spain to strengthen economic ties between Nigeria and the country.
