The Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Segun Ogunwuyi, has resigned his appointment, becoming the latest government official to leave the administration in recent months.
Ogunwuyi’s resignation was conveyed in a letter dated Monday, October 12, 2026, in which he stated that his decision took immediate effect.
His departure comes amid a series of resignations by political appointees in Makinde’s administration over the past two months.
Ogunwuyi, a former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve the state and contribute to the administration’s activities.
In his resignation letter addressed to the governor, he wrote, “I respectfully write to resign my appointment as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State, with effect from today, 12th October, 2026.”
Reflecting on his time in government, Ogunwuyi described his service to the state as an honour and commended the team he worked with during his tenure.
“Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour. It has been deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration,” he stated.
He also expressed pride in the administration’s efforts to promote the state’s development, while expressing confidence in its continued progress.
“I remain immensely proud of what we have collectively accomplished in advancing the growth, development and prosperity of our dear State. As I take this decision, I do so with profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve, with confidence in the continued progress of Oyo State,” the letter read.
Ogunwuyi concluded his letter by reaffirming his respect for the governor and his commitment to the state and the country.
“Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest esteem and unwavering loyalty to Oyo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he added.
As of the time of this report, no reason for Ogunwuyi’s resignation was stated in the letter.
The political relationship between the duo developed against the backdrop of Oyo State’s shifting political landscape and the realignments that followed the 2019 governorship election. Ogunwuyi had previously served in the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, representing constituencies in Ogbomoso.
His political journey included membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party and the All Progressives Congress (APC). His eventual involvement in Makinde’s administration brought together two politicians whose careers had taken different paths but converged within the same state government.
Following Makinde’s victory in the 2019 governorship election on the PDP platform, Ogunwuyi joined his administration as Executive Assistant on Investment before becoming Director-General of the Oyo State Investment and Public-Private Partnership Agency.
His experience in legislative politics and investment-related administration provided the background to his subsequent elevation. In July 2021, Makinde appointed him Chief of Staff, placing him in a central position within the governor’s administration.
The appointment marked a significant development in their political relationship, with Ogunwuyi moving from an investment-focused role to one involving broader coordination of government activities and support for the governor’s office.
