Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has ruled out supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election, despite his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, declaring support for President Bola Tinubu.
The Grammy-nominated musician expressed his position during a recent interview with News Central TV.
The interview emerged online days after the Osun State governorship election and the announcement of the results.
Davido explained that his uncle’s decision to support Tinubu did not mean he would automatically adopt the same political position.
According to the singer, Governor Adeleke could have personal and state-related reasons for his endorsement, but he remained free to make his own political choices.
The singer also reflected on his participation in previous political campaigns, recalling his support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar when they were members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Davido highlighted his role in the political contest in Osun State, claiming that he helped overcome powerful political opponents through his campaign efforts and social media influence.
He said he believed he had fulfilled his responsibility to the people of Osun State and his family, adding that nobody could compel him to support a particular presidential candidate.
Discussing his uncle’s endorsement of Tinubu, Davido maintained that he had yet to settle on a candidate for the 2027 presidential election. However, he made it clear that the APC would not receive his support.
The singer acknowledged that his political position could change in the future but insisted that individuals should be allowed to make independent decisions about their preferred candidates.
Davido also recalled supporting the APC during its formation through the merger of opposition parties in 2015, noting that his late uncle was associated with the party at the time.
He subsequently supported Atiku Abubakar during his political association with the PDP.
“My uncle, immediately he won, came out to declare his support for President Tinubu. But as for me, I am not prepared to support anybody.
“I personally haven’t seen anybody in the past. Yes, I have supported Atiku before when we were in PDP, and I even supported in 2015 when APC first did the merger. My late uncle was part of the APC, so I campaigned then.
“But right now, I don’t have a presidential candidate. It might change, sha. It’s not going to be APC, but everybody should have their own,” he said.
