In a statement issued on Saturday by the Secretary of Council NUJ-FCT, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, the council described the journalist’s death as a painful loss to his family, colleagues and the wider media community.

The council said Onigbinde was a dedicated professional whose career reflected his commitment to gathering and disseminating information in the service of society.

He began his journalism career with Daily Trust newspaper before joining the Nigerian Tribune, where he worked until his death.

As a photojournalist, Onigbinde documented events and told stories through images, contributing to the media’s role in keeping the public informed.

The NUJ FCT Council said his death had created a painful void among colleagues and friends, as well as within the wider journalism community.

The council extended its condolences to the management and staff of the Nigerian Tribune, the Photojournalists Association of Nigeria (PJAN), his colleagues, friends and professional associates.

It also commiserated with his immediate family, particularly his wife and two children, who have been left to cope with the loss of their husband and father.

Onigbinde, who hailed from Ife Modakeke in Ife East Local Government Area of Osun State, was remembered for his contributions to journalism and his service to the public through his profession.

The council prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and asked God to comfort his wife, children, extended family, colleagues and all those mourning his passing.

It also prayed that God will grant the bereaved family and the journalism community the strength to bear the loss.
