In a statement dated 27 October 2026 and signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), the Commission said the register posted online on 26 October 2026 is the same preliminary register that was displayed physically at Registration Areas nationwide from 9 to 15 October 2026 during the Display, Claims and Objections exercise.

INEC said a number of questionable registration records were identified and flagged for further examination during that physical display, and that it had begun reviewing those records and taking corrective steps in line with established procedures.

The Commission explained that the version published online is the original preliminary register and does not reflect all of the data-cleanup work still under way. It stressed that the preliminary register is not the final certified register, noting that the Display, Claims and Objections exercise is designed to allow public scrutiny, expose inaccuracies and irregularities, and permit corrections before certification.

INEC added that it is examining the circumstances behind the suspicious photographs, including possible technical or procedural lapses, and will take appropriate action once findings are verified.

The Commission thanked citizens and stakeholders who brought the matter to public attention, stating that such scrutiny contributes to improving the accuracy and integrity of the register.

INEC said it remains committed to completing the necessary verification, adjudication and data-cleanup processes before the final Register of Voters is certified on 15 December 2026. It assured Nigerians that verified irregularities will be addressed through the applicable procedures, with further updates to follow as the review progresses.
