Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, to stop presenting himself as the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District election scheduled for January 16, 2027.
The judge also ordered the APC to forward the name of former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, to the Independent National Electoral Commission as its candidate for the election.
Justice Egwuatu issued the orders on Thursday after holding that Uzodinma did not win the APC’s May 18 senatorial primary conducted under the supervision of INEC.
The court ruled that evidence before it showed that Okorocha secured the majority of votes cast at the primary and ought to have been declared the winner.
Consequently, the judge directed the APC to submit Okorocha’s name to INEC and ordered the electoral commission to accept and publish him as the party’s lawful candidate for Imo West.
Justice Egwuatu also held that several documents relied upon in Uzodinma’s nomination were fabricated, ruling that the process violated provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act.
Uzodinma, the incumbent governor of Imo State, is serving his second term, which expires on January 14, 2028.
