The Nigerian Army has deployed a new battalion and an artillery regiment to Kano State as part of efforts to strengthen security operations and improve responses to emerging threats.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander of Sector 1, Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadique Muhammad Wase, disclosed this during an operational assessment visit to the newly established formations between October 28 and 29, 2026.
The formations comprise the 24 Battalion in Tudun Wada and the 311 Artillery Regiment in Dambatta, both in Kano State.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division, Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Wase said the new units required collective commitment, resilience and adequate support to achieve their operational objectives.
“Being fledgling formations, these units require collective resilience and dedication to achieve the desired objectives behind their establishment,” the GOC said.
He assured the troops that the division was working closely with the Kano State Government to accelerate the formations’ attainment of full operational capability.
Wase also identified personnel welfare and logistical support as priorities in ensuring the units became fully operational and capable of discharging their responsibilities effectively.
During the visit, the GOC, accompanied by the Commander, 3 Brigade, Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, held engagements with local government officials in Dambatta and Tudun Wada.
He urged the host communities to cooperate with the military and support the new formations, stressing that effective collaboration between security agencies and residents was essential to improving security across the state.
The Army said the establishment of the two formations was part of its broader expansion and restructuring initiative aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture and enhancing operational responsiveness.
The assessment visit also enabled the GOC to evaluate the units’ readiness and identify areas requiring additional support to ensure effective performance.
