His co-traveller, Blackborn, was also arrested at the airport after a body scan indicated that he had ingested foreign objects.

Marwa warns drug traffickers

Commenting on the arrests and seizures, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended officers of the agency’s commands in Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto, Ondo, Oyo and Edo.

Marwa said the arrest of the two cocaine couriers at the Abuja airport should serve as a warning to Nigerians living abroad who attempt to use their foreign residence as a cover for drug trafficking.

He said NDLEA operatives at the country’s entry and exit points remained vigilant, warning that there would be no hiding place for anyone who risked their life and liberty by ingesting illicit drugs for money.

The NDLEA chairman also directed officers and men of the agency to sustain the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking while strengthening drug demand reduction efforts through its War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation campaign.

The agency said WADA activities were held during the week in schools, worship centres, workplaces and communities across the country, including Obawole Grammar School II, Ojodu, Lagos; Nsukka High School, Enugu; Government Technical College, Dorayi Babba Rijiyar Zaki, Kano; and Ajagbe Comprehensive High School, Iperu, Ogun State.
