APC Fires Back at Kwankwaso, Denies Plot to Disqualify NDC Candidate in Kano

The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed allegations by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso that the party and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf are working to disqualify the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, from the 2027 election.

The APC described the allegation as false, baseless and politically motivated, insisting that neither the party, Governor Yusuf nor the Kano State Government has any involvement in the legal proceedings challenging Gwarzo’s candidacy.
In a statement, the party said the case arose from the internal crisis within the NDC and was instituted by members of the party against the NDC.

According to the APC, attempts to link the party or the governor to the court action were misleading and amounted to an effort to divert public attention from the internal disputes within the opposition party.
The ruling party maintained that it neither sponsored nor influenced the legal action against Gwarzo, challenging Kwankwaso to produce credible and verifiable evidence to support his allegation.

The APC said making unsubstantiated claims against the party and the governor could mislead the public and further heighten political tension in Kano ahead of the 2027 general election.
It also described the allegation as political blackmail, particularly because it was coming from Kwankwaso, whom the party identified as the vice-presidential candidate of the NDC.

The APC further said it had no interest in interfering with the electoral process or using government machinery against political opponents, stressing that every eligible Nigerian has a constitutional right to contest elections in accordance with the law.

On the court proceedings, the party emphasised the independence of the judiciary, saying neither the APC nor Governor Yusuf had the power to dictate how courts handle cases or determine their outcomes.

It urged Kwankwaso and other political actors to allow the relevant institutions to discharge their constitutional responsibilities without politicising legal disputes arising from internal party affairs.

The APC warned that continued attempts to associate the party and Governor Yusuf with the NDC’s internal legal battle could create a false narrative ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The party therefore urged the public to disregard the allegations, reiterating that neither the APC nor Governor Yusuf had any direct or indirect involvement in the proceedings concerning Gwarzo’s candidacy.
