Nigeria’s Ambassador to Hungary, Abasi Braimah, has pledged improved welfare support for Nigerian students at the University of Pécs, following a meeting with the leadership of the Nigerian Students’ Union at the Nigerian Embassy in Budapest.
Braimah gave the assurance on Friday, October 30, 2026, when he hosted the union’s newly elected executive members alongside home-based staff of the embassy.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the student leaders to formally introduce themselves to the diplomatic mission and discuss areas of collaboration to improve the welfare of Nigerians studying in Hungary.
The University of Pécs, one of Hungary’s oldest higher institutions with a history spanning more than 200 years, is home to over 300 Nigerian students.
During the engagement, the student representatives raised concerns affecting their members and highlighted areas where the embassy could provide assistance.
In response, Ambassador Braimah assured the delegation that the embassy remained committed to supporting Nigerian students and adding value to their experience in Hungary.
He encouraged the student leaders to share ideas and suggestions that could strengthen the relationship between the embassy and the Nigerian student community.
The envoy also thanked the delegation for the visit and announced that the embassy would undertake a working visit to the University of Pécs.
The planned visit is expected to provide an opportunity for direct engagement with the university’s management and Nigerian students, particularly on issues relating to their welfare and academic experience.
The meeting underscores the embassy’s commitment to maintaining regular engagement with Nigerian students in Hungary and addressing concerns affecting their stay in the country.
