The leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under Senator David Mark has been sacked by a Federal High Court in Abuja, in a judgment that could jeopardise the party’s participation in the 2027 general elections.
Justice Peter Lifu, in a judgment delivered on Thursday, ruled that Mark’s emergence as the party’s national chairman, alongside other members of his executive, violated the ADC constitution and established party guidelines.
The court consequently nullified all actions taken by the Mark-led leadership, declaring Nafiu Bala Gombe, the plaintiff in the suit, the authentic leader of the party following the resignation of other party officials.
The ruling casts fresh uncertainty over the ADC’s leadership structure and its preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the validity of decisions taken under Mark’s administration now in question.
The judgment is expected to deepen the leadership crisis within the opposition party, which has been embroiled in a protracted tussle over its leadership and control.
