President Bola Tinubu will on Friday begin a two-state visit to Akwa Ibom and Rivers states, combining the commissioning of major infrastructure projects with political engagements as the All Progressives Congress (APC) intensifies its mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The visit will take the President to Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, where he is expected to inaugurate several landmark projects executed by Governor Umo Eno’s administration before proceeding to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Saturday for an APC campaign rally.
The Uyo leg of the visit will feature the commissioning of key aviation infrastructure at the Victor Attah International Airport, including the new International Terminal Building, International Airport Hospital and Ibom Aviation Village.
Other projects scheduled for inauguration include the Airport-Okopedi Road, which traverses Nsit Atai and Okobo Local Government Areas; and Ring Road 3, linking Idoro Road to Ikot Ekpene Road through Uyo and Ibiono Ibom.
The President will also commission the AKWA-GIS Office Complex, the Command and Control Centre and the ARISE Palm Resort.
In anticipation of the presidential visit, Governor Eno has declared Friday a work-free day to enable residents to participate in the reception and welcome the President.
Beyond the infrastructure inaugurations, the visit is expected to provide an opportunity for President Tinubu to consolidate political alliances, engage party stakeholders and mobilise support for his re-election bid.
On Saturday, the President will proceed to Port Harcourt, where he is expected to participate in the APC rally.
The Rivers rally will be the third major campaign outing by Tinubu since the party commenced its re-election mobilisation with a flag-off rally in Kaduna last month.
The two-state visit underscores the growing intersection of the President’s governance engagements and the APC’s political mobilisation as the party seeks to strengthen its structures and broaden support across the South-South geopolitical zone.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the engagements will also focus on promoting political stability, national unity and a shared commitment to Nigeria’s development.
