Wike’s Aide Accuses Atiku, David Mark Faction of Buying ‘Fake’ ADC Leadership

An aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Olayinka, has mocked former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and members of the Senator David Mark-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing them of taking over an illegitimate party structure.

Olayinka alleged that the faction’s emergence was the product of a flawed political arrangement in which only the ADC National Chairman was allegedly persuaded to resign and subsequently announce a caretaker committee headed by David Mark.
In a statement criticising the process, the minister’s aide questioned the constitutional basis for the former chairman’s decision to constitute a caretaker committee after resigning from office.

He argued that the ADC constitution should have determined who would assume leadership following the chairman’s resignation, particularly whether the Deputy National Chairman was expected to take over or a caretaker committee could be established.

Olayinka accused the faction of failing to secure the support of the entire National Working Committee (NWC), which he said would have been necessary to facilitate a legitimate leadership transition.
According to him, the faction allegedly secured the cooperation of only the National Chairman instead of obtaining the collective resignation of NWC members and following the appropriate procedure for constituting a caretaker committee.

He described the arrangement as a political scam, alleging that the former chairman deceived the faction by handing over what he called a fake party structure before moving on.
The aide said he had earlier warned those involved about the alleged irregularities but was dismissed and subjected to criticism.

Olayinka also faulted the faction for blaming the judiciary following the court’s intervention in the ADC leadership crisis, insisting that the legal outcome was predictable.
He maintained that the controversy stemmed from the faction’s alleged failure to follow the party’s constitutional provisions rather than any bias or interference by the judiciary.

His comments came amid the deepening leadership crisis in the ADC, with rival factions laying claim to the party’s national leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.
