MultiChoice has discontinued Africa Magic Family after 12 years on television, replacing the popular DStv channel with a new entertainment station, Africa Magic+.
The development was announced on Thursday, November 5, 2026, through Africa Magic’s official Instagram account as part of changes to the entertainment channels available on the DStv platform.
The new channel, Africa Magic+, commenced broadcasting at 6am West African Time on the same day, with MultiChoice promising subscribers a wider variety of entertainment programmes.
Africa Magic Family bows out after 12 years
Africa Magic Family had become a familiar destination for Nigerian and other African television audiences, particularly viewers interested in Nollywood movies, locally produced drama series and family-oriented entertainment.
During its 12-year run, the channel showcased several Nigerian productions exploring family relationships, everyday experiences, comedy and social issues.
Among the popular programmes associated with the station were The Johnsons and Hustle, which attracted audiences during their television runs.
Its closure marks the end of an era for subscribers who had followed its programmes over the years, especially viewers who relied on the channel for Nigerian movies and locally produced television series.
What subscribers should expect
In announcing the replacement, Africa Magic indicated that the new station would offer viewers more variety, stories, drama and additional entertainment options.
The introduction of Africa Magic+ forms part of MultiChoice’s broader adjustment of its DStv channel line-up and entertainment offerings, which took effect on November 5.
The company is expected to use the new station to refresh its content offering and provide subscribers with a different viewing experience.
However, the transition means viewers who were accustomed to Africa Magic Family will have to adjust to the new channel and its programming.
