The death toll from last week’s devastating flash floods in Nepal has risen to 1,222, with 4,875 people still missing as rescuers continue to search through debris and isolated communities a week after the disaster.

According to The Hindu, citing Nepal Police and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, bodies have been recovered across eight districts, with Chitawan recording the highest number at 348, followed by Nawalparasi East with 218 and Nawalparasi West with 208.

Nuwakot has recorded 155 deaths, while 127 bodies have been recovered in Rasuwa, 69 in Gorkha, 60 in Dhading and 38 in Tanahu.

The scale of the disaster has also complicated the search for missing people, 583 of whom are foreigners, while thousands remain unaccounted for in areas where roads, bridges and communication networks were swept away.

The joint security operation involving the Nepal Army and other security agencies has so far rescued 11,993 people by helicopter and land routes. About 21,314 security personnel have been deployed for search and rescue operations.

The humanitarian crisis was underscored on Wednesday in Bidur, where survivors were forced to use a temporary cable crossing over the swollen Trishuli River after floodwaters destroyed roads and bridges.

The Nepal Army installed the roughly 250-metre cable, which residents and soldiers have been using to move people across the river, including those needing medical treatment, medicines, food and other essential supplies.

The disaster has also spread across the Nepal-China border. In Tibet’s Gyirong county, where flooding struck near the Nepal border, 21 people have died, and 541 remain missing, according to Chinese authorities cited by The Hindu.

China reopened the highway leading to the Gyirong border crossing on Wednesday after floodwaters destroyed sections of the route, allowing heavy rescue equipment to reach the disaster zone.

Reuters reported that search teams equipped with life-detection devices and dogs were subsequently deployed.

India has also stepped up its response, with a fifth aircraft arriving in Nepal carrying an 11-member rescue team, specialised equipment and 5.5 tonnes of essential medicines, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

The disaster has meanwhile renewed scrutiny of development and environmental practices in the Himalayan region. Environmentalist Sunita Narain said the scale of the flooding was linked to decades of treating rivers and mountains as though they could be continually re-engineered, particularly through extensive hydropower development.

The continuing recovery operation comes as authorities confront the destruction of transport links and the large number of people still missing, leaving the final human cost of the disaster uncertain.

British television personality Katie Price has reportedly decided to end her eight-month marriage to Lee Andrews after allegedly discovering that a cryptocurrency wallet he claimed contained $50 million (£37 million) had only $3 (£2.22) in it.

The 48-year-old model and media personality is said to have sought legal advice from a prominent London divorce lawyer as she considers formally bringing the marriage to an end.

According to reports, Price confronted Andrews after a financial expert accessed the cryptocurrency wallet using a recovery phrase and passkey he had allegedly provided to her.

Price reportedly sent Andrews a message on WhatsApp, accusing him of deceiving her.

“I have been played and you are not who you say you are. Why have you lied to me?” she allegedly wrote.

A source also claimed that Price told a friend on Tuesday, September 1, that she had finally reached her limit.

“I have come to my senses Lee has lied and lied and lied. I am sick of it. It is over,” she was quoted as saying.

According to a source cited in reports, the discovery of the cryptocurrency balance was the final development in a series of controversies surrounding Andrews.

The source claimed that Andrews had previously told Price that he possessed around $50 million in cryptocurrency and had even promised that she would have access to some of the alleged fortune.

“He gave her the ‘recovery phrase’, the passkey, to get into his account,” the source claimed.

The source alleged that on Monday, August 31, Price instructed a financial expert to examine the wallet.

“To her shock, discovered it contained just $3, or £2.22,” the source said.

The source further alleged that Andrews never possessed the fortune he had claimed to have.

“Lee never had $50million; he doesn’t have a bean,” the source claimed, adding that the largest amount allegedly recorded in the wallet was about $14,490 (£10,720) in March, which was reportedly transferred out on the same day.

The claims have not been independently established.

The latest development reportedly follows months of controversy surrounding Price’s relationship with Andrews.

According to the source, Price had continued to give her husband the benefit of the doubt despite allegations made by several women and former associates.

However, the source claimed that the alleged discovery of the cryptocurrency balance changed her position.

“He has deeply embarrassed her and, more importantly, has scammed, hurt and cheated so many other women. Enough is enough,” the source said.

Another source claimed that Price had been communicating with Andrews’ family and former partners and had increasingly questioned his explanations concerning the allegations surrounding him.

“She is so unbelievably bored with his lies,” the source was quoted as saying.

The source alleged that Price had retained messages, screenshots, voice recordings and other material relating to the controversy.

Andrews, 43, has reportedly continued to deny allegations made against him.

He is currently understood to be detained at Al Awir prison in the United Arab Emirates, where he has reportedly been held in connection with civil cases.

Reports say he has been attempting to raise money to pay a fine connected to his release.

Andrews has reportedly maintained contact with Price while in detention, allegedly assuring her that he would soon be released.

However, according to sources, Price has grown increasingly frustrated with what she considers repeated assurances that have not materialised.

The controversy surrounding Andrews has extended beyond his relationship with Price.

Reports have previously alleged that he made a number of claims concerning his wealth, education, professional achievements and connections to prominent personalities.

Among the claims attributed to him was that he possessed an engineering PhD from the University of Cambridge. However, reports said the university found no record of him receiving such a qualification.

He was also reportedly accused of claiming that he had purchased Chelsea Football Club and had professional connections with high-profile figures including Kim Kardashian and Elon Musk.

Reports further alleged that artificial intelligence-generated images were used to create the impression that he had met or worked with celebrities and influential personalities.

At the time, Price reportedly became involved in efforts to locate him and issued a missing-person appeal.

Andrews later claimed that he had been kidnapped at gunpoint and taken to a secret location.

However, he was subsequently found in prison.

According to reports, Andrews had told Price that he was arrested on suspicion of espionage, while other accounts linked his detention to outstanding issues involving a rented vehicle.

The circumstances surrounding his detention have contributed to the growing controversy surrounding the marriage.

Price and Andrews reportedly held a wedding ceremony in Dubai in January.

However, the ceremony was initially not legally recognised as a marriage. Their marriage was subsequently formally registered on February 17 at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.
