Pedro Neto scored both goals as Chelsea handed Everton their first league defeat of the season at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The match was stopped for about 10 minutes in the 75th minute after Martinez collided with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite while challenging for the ball.

Martinez received lengthy treatment on the pitch before being carried off on a stretcher. The Argentine, a 2022 FIFA World Cup winner, was able to move his arms as he was taken away and was replaced by Mike Penders.
Branthwaite also received treatment but was able to continue playing.
Chelsea took the lead shortly after half-time when Neto finished from close range after Jorrel Hato’s cutback was deflected into the Portuguese winger’s path.

Neto completed his brace in the 90th minute, calmly firing into the bottom corner after Jordan Henderson’s free-kick struck the Chelsea defensive wall and fell into his path.

The victory gave Chelsea their first Premier League clean sheet in nine months and ended Everton’s unbeaten start to the campaign.

Chelsea climbed to fourth place in the table, while Everton dropped to sixth, pending the outcome of other weekend fixtures.
The full extent of Martinez’s injury was not immediately confirmed.
