Nicolas Jackson scored twice for Aston Villa, while Erling Haaland’s second-half header proved insufficient to rescue Manchester City from defeat.

Jackson opened the scoring in the sixth minute after capitalising on a defensive error before Haaland restored parity early in the second half.
However, Jackson struck again in the 60th minute to put Villa back in front, with City unable to find another equaliser despite late pressure.
The defeat ended Manchester City’s run of seven consecutive Premier League victories and marked manager Enzo Maresca’s first league loss since taking charge of the club.

Manchester City remain top of the Premier League table on 21 points, three points ahead of second-placed Arsenal, having played eight matches.

Arsenal can draw level with City on points if they defeat Everton in their home fixture later on Saturday.

The result also extended Aston Villa’s impressive recent run against City, with Saturday’s victory their fourth consecutive Premier League win over the visitors at Villa Park.
