Tambuwal alleged that the incident occurred around the Sokoto Airport on Friday, October 30, 2026, when personnel of the Sokoto Marshal and Sokoto State Community Guard reportedly blocked Dan’iya’s convoy.
In a statement posted on his X handle on Saturday, Tambuwal alleged that the security personnel fired gunshots, damaged the candidate’s vehicle and detained two Department of State Services officers attached to his security detail.

He described the allegations as “deeply disturbing” and called on the Nigeria Police Force, DSS and other relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, independent and impartial investigation into the incident.

“I strongly condemn the reported attack on our Sokoto State ADC governorship candidate, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, and members of his convoy around Sokoto Airport yesterday, 30 October 2026,” Tambuwal said.
He stressed that every Nigerian had the right to move freely, associate with a political party and seek political office in accordance with the law.
“No citizen should face threats, violence or harassment for exercising these rights,” he said.
Tambuwal also urged individuals with political differences or grievances to pursue peaceful and lawful means of resolving them, saying political contests should be decided through votes rather than violence.

He further called on security agencies to remain professional and impartial, warning that they must not be used as instruments of political intimidation.

“I call on the Sokoto State Government to ensure that all security outfits under its authority operate lawfully and impartially,” he added.

Despite the alleged incident, Tambuwal said the ADC remained committed to its political activities, including the party’s presidential campaign flag-off scheduled for November 4, 2026.

“Let it be clear: no amount of intimidation or threats will deter us from proceeding with our scheduled ADC presidential campaign flag-off on 4 November 2026,” he said.
He urged ADC members and supporters to remain calm, exercise restraint and stay committed to peaceful political engagement and the rule of law.
“Sokoto belongs to all its people.

Nigeria belongs to all of us. Our democracy must protect the right of every citizen to participate freely and without fear,” Tambuwal said.
