Tinubu appoints former NYSC D-G, others to tackle social vices
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Maj.- Gen. Suleiman Kazaure (rtd), former Director General, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, and four others to form a special committee on campaign against social vices in tertiary institutions.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagement, Hon. Sunday Asefon.
According to him, the move was to address the growing concern of social vices plaguing tertiary institutions across the country.
He said drug abuse, sexual harassment, cultism, cybercrime and academic dishonesty among others are some of the social vices which hinder academic performance and personal development of some students.
Asefon added that those vices did not only hinder academic performance but also threatened the overall safety and well-being of students thereby casting a shadow over the vibrant environment of tertiary institutions.
“The formation of the special committee underscores a significant commitment of the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu to safeguard the future of Nigerian students.
“And also the need for a comprehensive and collaborative approach in tackling the menace of social vices in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions,” he said.
Asefon said that the committee was drawn from various stakeholders, renowned educationists, students activists, and patriotic leaders among others.
He listed the newly formed special committee for the Eradication of Social Vices in Tertiary Institutions (SESV-TI) as Maj.- Gen. Suleiman Kazaure (rtd) and the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Nigeria Army University Biu, as the Chairman.
Others are Maxwell Okoye as Secretary, Prof. Jerry Ugokwe, a Professor of Legislative Studies and Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, former Deputy Speaker, Federal House of Representatives.

PDP leaders, critical stakeholders endorse Hon. Teejay Yusuf for National Chairman
Key political figures and critical stakeholders from the North Central region of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have rallied behind Hon. Tajudeen Yusuf as their preferred candidate for the party’s next National Chairman.
The endorsement comes from the group known as the PDP Conscience Vanguard, who believe Yusuf is the key to uniting and revitalizing the main opposition party
In a statement issued on Thursday in Lokoja, the North Central Coordinator of the group, Isaiah Akoh, emphasized that Hon. Yusuf possesses the experience, leadership qualities, charisma, extensive connections necessary to lead the PDP towards unity and strategic repositioning.
The statement outlined several reasons for their endorsement of Hon. Yusuf, particularly noting that the party’s future success lies in having a chairman from the North Central region.
The group pointed to his extensive political background and ability to bridge gaps within the party, especially in light of the challenges the PDP faces.
“We believe that Hon. Teejay Yusuf is the right candidate at this crucial moment,” the statement reads. “Yusuf is not merely a legislator; he is an experienced statesman with a proven track record. Serving three terms as the representative of Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership and political acumen.”
