Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has reversed the decision of his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje, revoking an expanse of land from the Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies.

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Abduljabbar Umar, presented the documents of the land to the college’s Deputy Rector, Dija Isa.

Isa, while addressing journalists on Wednesday, said Yusuf was empowered by Section 28 of the Land Use Act, Cap 15 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, to take that decision.

The commissioner said, “I wish to cast the minds of the members of the public to when we came on board on the 29th May 2023. His Excellency directed for development control activities to be kick-started over a lingering dispute on the piece of land between the Kano State Polytechnic and the Aminu Kano School of Remedial Studies.

“This is a very happy day for us at the Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies. In fact, not us alone but the people of Kano State as a whole, because Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies is an institution of Kano State for our children and great-grandchildren and posterity.

“This revocation of land had upset us; it had upset the people of Kano State as a whole because it was a setback in the education system. Now that we have our land back, we are grateful to the Kano State government,” he said.

Royal matter: Appeal Court Orders Fresh Hearing into Kano Emirate Tussle

Published

on

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has ordered a fresh hearing in the legal battle over the disputed Kano Emirate involving Alhaji Nasir Ado Bayero.

The Appellate Court, in a judgment delivered on Friday, held that Bayero was denied fair hearing due to the shoddy manner in which a Kano High Court conducted proceedings against him.

Justice Mohammed Mustapha, who delivered the lead judgement, stated that the Kano High Court was unfair to Bayero by conducting proceedings without serving him a hearing notice to enable him to present his case.

Justice Mustapha held that all courts of law are bound to ensure justice for all parties by giving them equal opportunities, adding that the conduct of the proceedings against Bayero amounted to a travesty of justice.

Specifically, the Appellate Court held that Bayero ought to have been served with a hearing notice to allow him to present his grievances before judgment was delivered against him in what it described as a shoddy arrangement.

The Court of Appeal, therefore, ordered that the case be remitted to the Chief Judge of the Kano State High Court to be reassigned to another judge for expeditious determination.

Justice Mustapha did not award costs against the respondents in the appeal filed by Ahaji Ado Bayero.

Details later.
