Insecurity gone awry unlike during my tenure – Obasanjo states the obvious
Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that insecurity in Nigeria has reached alarming levels, surpassing the level it was during his tenure.
Obasanjo made the statement while inaugurating road projects constructed by Governor Bala Mohammed in Bauchi State on Sunday.
“The situation of insecurity in Nigeria today is so bad, unlike during our terms in office when we prioritized the security of lives and properties across the country,” Obasanjo stated.
Identifying a solution to it, he called for the urgent need for collective action to address the issue. According to him, community policing is crucial in identifying and addressing security threats within communities.
“The best form of security is community policing because everyone knows his/her neighbours within the community. With that, it is very easy to identify the bad eggs,” he explained.
Obasanjo urged traditional rulers to promote community policing in their domains to reduce crime rates. “We need peace, unity, and collective support in this country if we must move forward,” he said. “Things can be right and good again in the country, all we need to do is to get united and do things collectively.”
