By Kayode Sanni-Arewa
Popular actor and Hollyoaks star, Paul Danan has died at the age of 46
He was best known for playing bad boy Sol Patrick in the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Danan later appeared on the celebrity versions of Love Island and Big Brother.
The actor had been due to appear for a plea hearing at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on Thursday after being charged with having several bags of cocaine and a “quantity” of cannabis, according to court documents.
He was also accused of driving while under the influence of drugs on 2 October last year in Warrington, Cheshire.
Announcing his death, Danan’s management said in a statement: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the passing of @pauldanan at just 46 years old.
“Known for his television presence, exceptional talent, and unwavering kindness, Paul was a beacon of light to so many.
His untimely departure will leave irreplaceable voids in the lives of all who knew him.
“During this difficult time, we kindly request respect and privacy for Paul’s family, friends, and colleagues. No further comments will be made at this time.”
Danan’s last post on his official Instagram page was a short video audition for the Shakespeare play Twelfth Night, in which he was reading for the role of Orsino.
He posted it one week ago, commenting on how “beautiful and exhilarating it is” to get stuck into new work.
Calum Best, who worked with Danan across several TV shows including Celebrity Love Island, hailed him as “one of the funniest, kindest, and most real people” he had ever known and a “creative genius”.
He said in a statement: “Paul was one of the funniest, kindest, and most real people I’ve ever known – truly a creative genius too. Life wasn’t always easy for him, but he faced it with such heart and courage, and that inspired so many of us.
“We shared so many laughs, chats, and unforgettable moments. My heart goes out to his loved ones right now. Rest easy, brother.”
DJ Fat Tony was one of the first to pay tribute on social media, calling him “one of the sweetest men,” saying Danan’s death at such a young age “hurts so bad”.
Former EastEnders actor Michael Greco remembered Danan as a “genuine and caring man,” sharing a photo of the actor on his Instagram Story.
Greco wrote in a message: “So, so sad to read about the passing of Paul Danan. In this day and age of falsities and fake people, he was a genuine and caring man who just wanted to please everyone.
“A lovely warm man that will be missed by many. R.I.P. Buddy.”
Fellow EastEnders star Dean Gaffney also shared a photo of Danan on his Instagram Story, writing: “You had your demons but my god you had a heart of gold… RIP Mr Paul Danan.”
Kidulthood star Adam Deacon wrote in an Instagram story: “I just heard the devastating news about Paul Danan tragically passing away.
I had the pleasure of working with him, and he was a genuinely kind and compassionate person.” He added that his “thoughts” are with his friends and family.
Danan, who was born in Essex, trained at Italia Conti drama school in Woking.
He joined the cast of Hollyoaks aged 19, and quickly became a fan favourite, remaining on the show for four years.
Nominated for best actor at the Inside Soap Awards in 1999, his character left the show in 2001, fleeing the village after being falsely accused of murdering his girlfriend’s brother.
A role he loved, Danan would regularly call for his character’s return to the teen soap.
Following his Hollyoaks success, Danan moved to LA, where he tried to establish a career in Hollywood, but later said he spent too much time partying to find success.
He appeared twice as a contestant on Celebrity Love Island in 2005 and 2006 but did not win either series.
He also appeared in the 2006 ITV2 reality show Calum, Fran And Dangerous Danan, which saw the actor, former Westlife bodyguard Fran Cosgrave and George Best’s son Calum Best travel across the US.
In 2010, Danan pleaded guilty to drugs and public order offences, and was fined £350 and referred to a drugs agency for support by Stevenage Magistrates’ Court.
In 2017, he took part in Channel 5’s Celebrity Big Brother, where he was evicted early. He said at the time he hoped the series would give him a “second chance” at his career.
More recently, he began the podcast The Morning After With Paul Danan, which lasted from 2019 until 2023.
He had also appeared on shows including E4’s Celebrity Coach Trip, Channel 4 sketch comedy programme The Kevin Bishop Show, and CBBC show The Queen’s Nose, playing Melody’s agent Max.
Danan had spoken openly about his issues with substance abuse and poor mental health and discussed his addiction and recovery on ITV’s The Jeremy Kyle Show in 2019.
He said his substance abuse had begun when he was a teenager, adding he had to “work hard at it every day to keep in recovery”.
In 2022, Danan told The Sun a relapse over lockdown had left him homeless.
A former smoker, Danan later told the paper his reliance on vapes had left him in intensive care with pneumonia and an ongoing lung condition over the summer.
Describing his collapse, which he said was caused by over-e-cigarette use, he said a nurse had warned him if he was to “ever smoke in any form again, I risk being linked to an oxygen tank later on in life”.
In 2020, Danan set up a theatre company called Morning After Drama in Bristol, offering free workshops to vulnerable groups.
He had also planned to set up a linked charity, The Other Side Of Morning CIC to offer community projects around the country.
He had shared news about fundraising for the charity on TikTok in late December.
Danan leaves behind his nine-year-old son, Deniro.

By Francesca Hangeior.
The Nigeria Police Force has recorded significant successes in its ongoing efforts to combat crime across the country, with the recent busting of an illegal weapons manufacturing factory in Benue State, the arrest of a notorious cultist in Delta State, and the apprehension of two murder suspects in Kebbi State.
In a statement released Friday, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, detailed the recent police operations.
He said in the statement that on January 11, 2025, police operatives in Benue State raided a weapons manufacturing factory in Tse Akamabe Area of Kwande LGA, arresting two suspects: Friday Aduduakambe and Iorwashima Iornyume, also known as “AK.”
“Upon a coordinated search of the factory, the following items were recovered: 9 locally fabricated pistols, 1 locally fabricated AK47 riffle (unfinished), 2 gas cylinders, 4 vise machines, 1 filing machine and numerous other weapons manufacturing tools,” the statement revealed.
In another operation, police in Delta State, acting on credible intelligence, raided the apartment of a notorious Eiye confraternity member, Prosper Akeni, in DSC. Akeni, identified as a hitman for the cult group, was arrested, and a cache of weapons was recovered from his residence, including 1 English revolver pistol, 1 berretta pistol, 2 locally made double barrel guns, 2 locally made single barrel guns, 1 locally made revolver pistol, 1 locally made single barrel pistol, and 25 rounds of ammunition.
“The suspect confessed the guns recovered belonged to his cult group and he was in custody of them as the number one man in the group,” the statement added.
Furthermore, the police in Kebbi State arrested two suspects for separate murder cases. On December 31, 2024, Yunusa Haruna was apprehended for the fatal stabbing of his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, in Shanga Local Government Area. In a separate incident on January 8, 2025, Abubakar Ummar was arrested in Zuru Village for the stabbing death of Mohammed Bala during an argument.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has commended the operatives for these successful operations and has urged them to intensify efforts in ensuring the sanctity of law and order across the nation.
“The IGP further encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant at all times and share useful information to the Police in order to have a community-based policing system,” the statement concluded.

Dangote raises petrol prices to N955 from N899/litre for bulk buyers
By Francesca Hangeior.
Sequel to a consistent surge in the price of Brent, the global benchmark for crude, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has communicated an upward adjustment in the price of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, to its customers.
In an email statement obtained by our Correspondent on Friday, the refinery announced that its refined products would now be priced at N955 per litre at the loading gantry, marking an adjustment in its pricing structure.
It noted that marketers buying between 2 million – 4.99 million litres will now buy at N955 per litre while 5 million litres & above will buy at N950 per litre.
The amount marks an increase of N55.5 or 6.17 per cent from N899.50 per litre announced as a holiday discount for Nigerians last year December.
This adjustment applies to all stock balances yet to be lifted by the stated time while pending stock as of the effective time will also be repriced at the updated rates.
The statement added that the new price regime will take effect from 5:30 PM, today.
The notice titled, “Communication on PMS Price Review” read, “Dear Esteemed Customer, Trust this email finds you well.
“Kindly be advised that effective from 5:30 PM today, an upward adjustment has been implemented on the gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit.
“We shall communicate with customers on their revised volumes based on the reviewed prices, in due course.”
The price increase is expected to have widespread effects on the downstream petroleum sector, particularly private depots and retail markets.
An oil and gas expert, Olatide Jeremiah, said depots are poised to increase the loading price of refined petroleum products because of the heavy influence of the refinery.
Jeremiah, who is the Chief Executive Officer of petroleum price.ng, said, “Dangote Refinery’s influence on Fuel price has become unmatched; private depots, Major marketers, and independent Marketers will compete with this new price. Therefore, Nigerians should expect an increase in Petrol Pump Price.
Brent Crude oil as of today is $81.84, highest in 2025, its one major factor for the increase.”
On Thursday, the Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, disclosed that the price of crude oil in the international market remains a major force in driving the fluctuations in the pump prices of petrol.
He said the downstream sector is now fully deregulated with the government no longer involved in setting prices.

Late Alaafin of Oyo’s daughter drags Queen Dami
* Exposes her over paternity of her child
* Says, the Alaafin’s throne is not to be rubbished
By Francesca Hangeior.
Adeyemi Adebisi Aminat, the daughter of the late Alaafin of Oyo State, has dragged his ex-wife, Queen Dami over her social media shenanigans.
In a series of posts on her Instagram story, she pointed out the irony of how Dami was shaming someone over paternity of their child, yet, doesn’t know the father of her child. She claimed the former Queen bought the child from Port Harcourt.
Adebisi stated that the fact that this palace isn’t talking doesn’t mean they don’t know what to say. She further stated that the Alaafin’s throne is not to be rubbished as she admonished Dami not to play with her.
Adebisi revealed that she had all the blood tests and evidence before the King passed away.
“Dammy you are insulting someone that they don’t know the father of their child. Do you know the father of your own child? The child you went to buy in Port Harcourt. The fact that we are not talking doesn’t mean we don’t know what to say.
The Alaafin’s throne is not to be rubbished. Don’t play with me. I have all the blood tests and evidence before the king passed away. Go and give the child to the rightful owner”.
Recall that Queen Dami was married to the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyeye but the marriage crashed after she allegedly broke a palace rule, an act that prompted her to leave her marriage and run away from the palace.
She later blamed the whole act on frustration and wrong advice from friends. Unfortunately, her relationship with the monarch was never repaired before his demise last year.
Following the death of the King, Dami publicly moved on with Portable, who confirmed their relationship in an interview in 2023.
Portable stated that Queen Dami was only a fan before the death of her husband, the King, but things switched up from there as he wasn’t one to have an affair with people’s wives.
Dami later went public with their affair on Valentine’s Day.
She shared an adorable message for Portable, on her Instagram, as she excitedly expressed that Portable was her man, while also stating that he had her whole heart.
