Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi has extended his support to victims of last week’s devastating flooding in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State by donating ₦20 million to assist those affected.
Obi visited Niger State on Monday, where he announced the donation and promised to personally engage with the families impacted by the disaster. “I will personally visit the families of the victims and meet them one on one,” Obi pledged during his trip.
The former Anambra State Governor was received at the Niger State Government House in Minna by Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, who accompanied him to offer condolences to the flood-affected communities.
Expressing deep sympathy for the losses suffered, Obi said he “prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and for God to grant the affected families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
According to reports, the flooding has claimed the lives of 153 people, with over 100 others still missing after flash floods swept through the Mokwa communities.
Deputy Governor Garba expressed gratitude to Obi for his gesture, describing it as a show of kindness and compassion for those in dire need. He also commended him for his kindness and love for humanity, especially in the support of victims of natural disasters.
