Mayor Lucky Igbokwe, popularly known as Don Lulu, the Abia State Director of the City Boy Movement (CBM) and Chairman of Don Media Group, has gallantly lost his bid for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency primary election.
Don Lulu, a prominent grassroots mobilizer and pro-Tinubu advocate in Abia State, picked up the nomination form earlier this year to contest the House of Representatives seat.
He had garnered significant endorsements and was viewed by many as a strong contender, particularly among younger voters and CBM members. He secured votes in several wards, including Nkwoachara, but ultimately fell short amid stiff competition.
The primary, held as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections, saw intense rivalry within the Abia APC.
Reports indicate that other aspirants, including figures with established political influence such as former House Speaker Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, posed strong challenges in the delegate-based contest.
Don Lulu’s entry into the race had generated considerable buzz in Abia political circles. As the state leader of the City Boy Movement, he had been actively building structures across wards and local governments to support the Renewed Hope Agenda and position the movement as a key force for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election efforts in the state. His decision to run followed wide consultations with stakeholders, party leaders, and supporters.
Reacting to the outcome, sources close to the aspirant described the exercise as keenly contested and expressed confidence in Don Lulu’s continued influence within the party and the broader political landscape of Abia State. The APC is said to have convened an emergency meeting amid the internal dynamics following the primaries.
Don Lulu remains a visible and active player in Abia politics, with his media outfit and the City Boy Movement continuing to play roles in grassroots mobilization. His supporters have described the loss not as a setback but as an opportunity to regroup and strengthen structures ahead of future engagements.
