Emefiele Left Economy In Terrible Mess, We Don’t Know What To Charge Him With – Akpabio Laments
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, says the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu met the Nigerian economy in a mess which he claimed was caused by policies carried out by former governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele.
The Senate President spoke during a thanksgiving service by Senator Barinada Mpigi in Koroma, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State on Sunday.
“So, the kind of debt and economic mess that we are in, a lot of people will not understand but I remember President Obama saying that you cannot know Washington until you get to Washington.
“So, by the time we went in to look at the economic situation of the country, it was terrible. You know that the former governor of the central bank, we did not even know what to charge him with. Whether to charge him for putting foam on top of the bill or to charge him for illegal possession of firearm or to charge him for printing notes without income, I don’t know what we are going to charge him with.
“But what we can is that yes there is hunger today because of the policies and actions that they took, and we recognise that, and I think every political party should recognise that there is hunger, and we are battling to ensure that Nigerians sleep with their eyes closed,” Akpabio said.
Assuring that the government is making efforts to end insecurity and ensure that Nigerians feed well, the former Akwa Ibom State governor appealed to Nigerian to be patient as the rot over 60 years cannot be solved in six months.
“Yes, there is insecurity, we are battling to ensure that Nigerians can take three square meals a day. But be rest assured that we campaigned for this job, we campaigned around the country, we will not let you down, we will get to the bottom of it, all we need is your patience.
“That rots that have happened in Nigeria for so many years for almost 60 years cannot be solved in six months,” he said.
Following his removal as the CBN governor by President Bola Tinubu in June 2023, Emefiele is being prosecuted by the Federal Government over charges bordering on financial crimes.
On January 18, the Federal Government amended the criminal charges files against the former CBN governor.
They increased the charges from six counts to 20 counts. In the amendment, Emefiele was charged for alleged criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, procurement fraud and conspiracy to commit a felony.

‘I’ve never fought my husband over infidelity’ – Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde
Nollywood icon Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has opened up about the strength and trust that have sustained her 30-year marriage, revealing she has never had to confront her husband over infidelity.
In an interview on the Afropolitan podcast, the actress and philanthropist described her union with husband Matthew Ekeinde as built on mutual trust, selflessness, and zero ego clashes. She emphasized that she has never fought over another woman in their three decades together.
“I’ve been married to him now 30 years. I’ve never fought over a girl, you know?” Omotola said. “He doesn’t disturb me. If I have to go to my work, I go to my work. I come back. He trusts me totally. I trust him.”
The mother of four stressed that divorce is not an option for her personally, though she made it clear she is not against it for others.
“Divorce is not an option for me. It doesn’t mean it’s not an option for you. Let’s get that straight. I’m not against divorce,” she clarified. “I just always believe that marriage is a very personal thing. My marriage can never be the same thing as your marriage. No two marriages are the same because no two persons are the same.”
Omotola explained that every relationship has different “ingredients,” and what works for her may not apply to others facing trust issues or betrayal.
“You might be dealing with someone that has broken your trust and you’re trying to build that back,” she noted. “So those things are different… For me, how do you want to penetrate? It’s going to be very hard because I know this person. I’ve been with this person for 30 years, since I was 18.”
The veteran actress praised her husband’s character, describing him as “very selfless” and free of ego, qualities she credits for the peace and longevity of their marriage.
With over three decades in the acting profession, Omotola is known for movies like Blood Sister, RattleSnake: The Ahanna Story, Alter Ego, amongst others.

Petrol May Hit N2,000 per Litre Amid Refinery Price Hike, PETROAN Warns
The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has warned that petrol prices could surge to nearly N2,000 per litre if current trends persist.
This is following Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals’ hike of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), to N1,175 per litre from N995 on Monday.
PETROAN urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) to urgently boost domestic refining capacity to insulate Nigeria from global petroleum market shocks. PETROAN president, Dr Billy Gillis-Harry said, “PMS could rise close to N2,000 per litre while AGO may approach N3,000 per litre if the situation persists,” Dr Harry warned.
PETROAN specifically called on NNPC Group CEO Engr. Bayo Ojulari to restart production at local refineries, including the Area 5 Plant at Port Harcourt and Warri Refinery, which operated briefly before shutting down for profitability assessments.
Dr Harry linked the volatility to the Israel-US-Iran conflict, with drone and missile attacks disrupting oil routes and supply chains. Before the crisis, he noted, petrol sold at N774 per litre (now over N1,000, up 30 per cent) and diesel (AGO) at N950 (now N1,400+, up 49 per cent). He stressed rehabilitating government refineries to leverage Nigeria’s crude reserves under NNPC custody, making them less vulnerable than import-reliant private ones.
Continued hikes, he warned, would fuel inflation, job losses, economic hardship, higher transport costs, and pricier goods—PMS powers daily mobility, AGO industry.
Dr Harry lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s oil and gas reforms, urging him to order immediate refinery restarts for citizen relief and economic stimulus.

Gunmen abduct APC chieftain, two others in fresh attack on Ondo community
Suspected gunmen terrorising Ilu-Abo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State have again launched a violent attack, abducting a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Joseph Kayode Aladesuyi, and two others.
Aladesuyi, who is also the Secretary of Okeluju Local Council Development Area (LCDA) from Irun Akoko, was abducted on Monday on his farm located at the Kajola settlement in Ilu-Abo community.
The farm is about five kilometres from the Akure Airport at Eleyewo community in Oba-Ile, Akure North LGA.
The Nation gathered that the assailants who stormed the farm, waylaid Aladesuyi and his grandaughter, before shooting sporadically and marching the victims into a nearby forest.
However, the gunmen were said to have left behind the young girl and moved Aladesuyi into the bush.
Sources said Aladesuyi, a grassroots politician and chief executive officer of JOTINA Farms, appeared to be the main target of the gunmen.
One of the sources, who pleaded anonymity, said: “Another kidnapping occurred at Ilu-Abo in Akure today. Three victims include Mr Joseph Kayode Aladesuyi, an Irun-Akoko born, Akure-based politician and agro-investor, CEO of JOTINA Farms.
“We believe Joseph was the target of the kidnappers because the gunmen shot in his direction and one of the bullets hit a family member on the farm. Kindly join us in praying for their immediate release from captivity.”
The incident reportedly caused panic among the residents of the community following the sporadic gunshots by the attackers.
It was learnt that many parents hurriedly rushed to schools to pick up their children amid fears generated by the heavy gunfire.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said officers had been deployed to the scene.
He assured that the command had swung into action and promised to provide further details.
The latest incident came barely two days after Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa said many of the reported insecurity challenges in the state were “isolated cases.”
“Those cases you mentioned, as I said, are isolated cases. These are not bandit attacks as it were, because when a bandit comes in, they destroy, they kill for no cause,” he said during a media parley with some selected journalists in Akure.
