Fake Degrees: FG To Bring Perpetrators To Book – Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu on Saturday, says Machineries have been put in place to bring the menace of fake degrees to an end and make the perpetrators face the wrath of the law.
The President stated this in Bauchi during the convocation for 19,252 students of the 26th, 27th, 28th and 29th set of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi state.
Represented by Mr Ochedo James, Director University Education, Federal Ministry of Education, the President assured that his administration would do everything to ensure that universities were improved inline with global best practices.
“I’d like to tell you that the present administration is steadily studying the education sector including the tertiary subsector with the view of finding a blueprint to achieving greater success in service delivery.
“In order to safeguard the sanctity of our graduates, the federal government had noted gradual encroachment of fake degrees certificates acquired by some unpatriotic Nigerians from unscrupulous institutions mostly from beyond the borders of this country.
“Machineries have been put in place to bring this unwholesome threat to an end and those who engage in this shall face the wrath of the law,” he said.
Tinubu, who noted that Nigerian universities had witnessed untold hardship over the years due to frequent strike actions, said that his government was focusing on creation of an enabling environment for sustainable dialogue to bring strike actions by staff union to an end
According to him, the university system in Nigeria has come a long way and has recorded a lot of achievements in training various professionals in every field and experts in various disciplines that were contributing to development not only in the nation but worldwide.
He urged the ATBU to intensify its collaborative efforts with the universities across the globe in order to conceptualise research ideas for the benefits of the country.
“I am aware of the landmark achievements Nigerian academics have recorded in the areas of research in science and technology.
“Few countries in Africa can boast of the robust and vibrant research activities leading to amazing discoveries as been done by Nigerian researchers.
“Your efforts will not go in vain as we are more than ever ready to give you all the support needed for you to do more to ensure that our graduates remain competitive in a reputive changing world,” said the President.
Earlier, Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state, said his administration would like to absorb the graduated medical students of the institution in a move to address the shortage of medical doctors in the healthcare facilities.
Represented by his Deputy, Mr Auwal Jatau, Mohammed said that ATBU, Bauchi has consistently been a beacon of knowledge and innovation, adding that its stood tall among its contemporaries in the country.

Finally, IGP approves hunger protests across Nigeria
The Nigerian police has finally approved the planned nationwide protests and outlined conditions for participants.
The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, revealed this on Friday while addressing journalists in Abuja.
He urged all groups planning to participate in the proposed nationwide protest to submit their details to the Commissioners of Police in their respective states.
The police boss said this was to ensure the protest was peaceful.
Egbetokun said, “We acknowledge the constitutional right of Nigerian citizens to peaceful assembly and protest.
“However, in the interest of public safety and order, we urge all groups planning to protest to provide necessary details to the Commissioner of Police in the state where the protest is intended to take place.
“To facilitate a successful and incident-free protest, they should please provide the following information: state the proposed protest routes and assembly points; expected duration of the protest; and names and contact details of protest leaders and organisers.”
The police boss said the information expected from the organisers also include measures to prevent hijacking by criminal elements, as well as key identifiers for possible isolation of potential troublemakers.
By providing the information, he said, the police will be able to deploy adequate personnel and resources to ensure public safety.
He said the police needed to know the specific routes and areas for the protest to avoid conflicts with other events or activities.
Mr Egbetokun said the police will “establish clear communication channels with protest leaders to address any concerns or issues that may arise; minimise the risk of violence, property damage, or other criminal activity.
“We encourage all protesters to cooperate with the police, obey the law, and adhere to global best practices for peaceful assembly to guarantee a safe and successful exercise of their rights.
