My life under threat, Mohbad’s widow raises alarm

Omowunmi, widow of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, has cried out over what she described as constant threats to her and Liam, the baby she had with the late singer.

This was as she urged the musician’s father, Joseph Aloba, to get a court order for the Deoxyribonucleic Acid Identification (DNA) test of her son Liam.

According to a national newspaper Aloba had called on the Nigeria Police to summon Omomunmi to provide insights into the death of his son and also demanded a test to ascertain the paternity of his grandson.

However, in a series of Instagram posts, Mohbad’s widow said she had been facing what Mohbad faced before his death.

“Nigerians, I and Liam are at your mercy! Are you going to allow what happened to Ilerioluwa to happen to us? They are threatening us daily. They have taken our freedom from us! Nigerians help us,” she wrote.

She said it was unthinkable that Liam’s grandfather, who pressured them into having a child, is also the same person demanding a DNA test.

“I never wanted to have a baby at that time, but Baba told Mohbad and me the Holy Spirit told him I should get him a grandson who would buy the coffin that would bury him.

“I got to know I was pregnant on August 5, same year, my father-in-law was so ecstatic over the news of my pregnancy. Why is he trying to defame the treasure his son left behind?” she queried.

She, however, disclosed that she was ready for the DNA test when her father-in-law produces a court order to the effect.

“Go and get court order cos it’s time I put my enemies to shame,” Omowunmi wrote.

Meanwhile, earlier in an Instagram Live, Omowunmi alleged that her son was not enjoying the needed freedom like other kids, saying some people were threatening to gun her down.

She said: “As you all know, I have never done this, and this is because my husband, Ilerioluwa, never wanted this. I am not scared to die! Enough is enough! Nigerians, please come to my aid! They have cursed my son several times, and today, they have started. They have said my son will not reach the age of one, the same thing done to Mohbad that his father could not come out on social media to ask the public to help.

“Nigerians, please help me! I’m doing this now because Ilerioluwa will never forgive me if I don’t fight for Liam. He thought keeping quiet was the answer until he died. He had no chance to fight, but I, Wunmi, will fight with my last blood if anyone comes for my son.

“You guys are threatening to gun me down at the inquest, threatening to kidnap me and my son, yet I have kept quiet. I can’t even go out in public for fear of my life. My son can’t enjoy the things other kids are enjoying because of you guys! Why? You’re taking my son’s right of freedom from him, but today I’m calling Nigerians to please come to my aid. Even if they eventually kill me, please let Liam live, I beg you! You’re taking my son’s right away from him! I am calling Nigerians to please come to my aid, I am too young for these things they’re putting me through, Nigerians, is it until I die?

“This is the same thing Mohbad went through, but nobody helped. Please, Nigerians , help me. When my husband came out, he was never a substance dealer. Now, they are using DNA to keep me shut. Mohbad was never a substance dealer or a user, and that pulled down his self-esteem and made him afraid to show his vulnerability, I would not be ashamed. Abuse me all you want just like you abused Mohbad but I’m never going to keep shut for Liam, don’t come for Liam because I will fight for him with all my life, I will protect him because he’s all I have and I’m the only parent he has, Mohbad is not here to fight for him anymore.”

She added, “Please tell baba to bring court order for a DNA to be done. He is not getting the court order because he’s happy that my son is getting bashed daily. This is my son that I carried for 10 months, all mothers please come to my aid, everybody is telling me to keep shut but I can’t do that anymore, even if they will kill me let Liam live please, that is the only person Ilerioluwa left please! Baba is not getting the court order because he’s happy Liam is being bashed, Liam is like a competitor, and he sees him as a threat. He’s happy that he’s using his son’s death to make money online.”

Just in: NNPC Cuts Petrol Price Amid Competitive Moves with Dangote Refinery

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has announced a reduction in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, at its retail outlets in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

According to a report by The Cable, the petrol price at the NNPC station in Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, was cut from ₦935 per litre to ₦910, signaling a slight relief for consumers in the nation’s capital.

However, the new pricing has not yet extended to Lagos, where petrol prices at NNPC retail outlets remain unchanged. This discrepancy has sparked renewed concerns over regional price variations in Nigeria’s downstream oil market.

The latest adjustment comes in the wake of an intensifying price contest between NNPC and the privately-owned Dangote Refinery. Just days earlier, on May 12, the Dangote Refinery lowered its ex-depot petrol price to ₦825 per litre, a strategic move aimed at capturing a larger share of the domestic fuel market.

The price reduction appears to be an outcome of recent high-level discussions between NNPC’s Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Bayo Ojulari, and Dangote Refinery’s founder, Aliko Dangote. The meeting, held on May 9, reportedly sought to realign the relationship between the two entities and promote collaboration rather than rivalry.

Speaking after the meeting, Dangote stated, “There is no competition between us; we are not here to compete with NNPC Ltd. NNPC is part and parcel of our business, and we are also part of NNPC. This is an era of cooperation between the two organisations.”

Ojulari echoed this position during a press briefing on May 12, attributing the petrol price reduction to the recent procurement of fuel at lower international prices. He explained that the earlier surge in pump prices was due to existing stock purchased by marketers at higher rates.

“This downward price adjustment reflects our effort to respond to changing supply conditions and deliver better value to Nigerians,” Ojulari said, while also noting that more adjustments may occur as the market stabilizes.

Industry observers view the ongoing price adjustments as an early indicator of growing competition in Nigeria’s petroleum sector, especially with the Dangote Refinery ramping up its operations. Analysts believe that sustained collaboration between both players could enhance supply efficiency and potentially ease the burden of fuel costs for consumers nationwide.

BUNKERING: Army, Tantita Security Arrest Truck Laden with Illegally Extracted Crude Oil in Delta

A joint team comprising officers of the 181 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Oleh, and personnel from Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd. has arrested a vacuum truck involved in illegal crude oil extraction at Well 3, Olomoro, in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.

According to reports, the truck, which previously belonged to Engr. Daniel Omoyibo, also known as Damotech, was gifted to the driver, Mr. Matthew Ojomikre, who is currently being detained at the Forward Operating Base (FOB), 181 Battalion, Oleh.

Upon interrogation, the driver confessed that his company had been contracted by Heritage Energy Operational Services Ltd. to evacuate sludge from Well 3, Olomoro. However, he was unable to provide any formal approvals or documentation authorizing the activity, as was previously the norm.

Until recently, Heritage Energy Operational Services Ltd. had consistently provided crude and condensate trucking permits to officers of the Nigerian Army and Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd. for proper monitoring from the loading point to the discharge location.

Officers of Tantita Security Services, in collaboration with a team from Heritage and the Nigerian Army, have collected samples from the vacuum truck for laboratory testing and analysis.

The preliminary confessional statement from the driver indicates that he illegally collected crude oil from Well 3 under the pretense of evacuating sludge from the wellheads.

Authorities have reported that the same truck has previously been involved in unauthorized crude oil evacuations within the Isoko axis.

The driver, the truck, and its contents remain in custody at the 181 Battalion Base in Oleh for further interrogation and possible prosecution.

AMMC Partners NUJ-FCT On Infrastructural Development

The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) has expressed commitment to partner the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council on infrastructural development in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

AMMC Coordinator, Chief Felix Amechi Obuah gave the assurance when he received the Chairman of NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, and her executive team on a courtesy visit on Tuesday in Abuja.

Chief Obuah who welcomed members of the NUJ FCT, and commended the media plays a very vital role in the growth and development of any organisation.

He also used the occasion to congratulate the first female chairperson of the union after forty one years of its existence and prays for a successful tenure

Obuah expressed his readiness to collaborate with the council having recognised the vital role the media plays in informing the public on activities of AMMC which is helping the agency to ensure full compliance with the FCT master plan.

He said: “I welcome you and your team to our corporate office today. I have listened to you and I just have to say that, I am indeed very happy to partner with the NUJ FCT. We need to partner together to be able to achieve our core and corporate mandate – and in partnering together, we support each other and grow together and educate the public, so as to attain infrastructural development in the FCT in line with the master plan of the nation’s capital city”.

He also expressed willingness to support the NUJ FCT Council, but explained that current financial constraints make it difficult to make any immediate commitment but hopes to accommodate the union’s needs in the next budget.

“Even though I am a bit handicapped to make any promises because of budgetary constraints, but in the subsequent budget, I assure you that whatever we can do to help your dream come true for NUJ and your members, the agency will do everything humanly possible to contribute their quota to the growth of the union in line with the FCT master plan

“You can write my office on what you feel we can do officially. I will also present it in the next budget and I will go to my superior, the Honourable Minister of FCT, and say these people visited me and came with a very solid, verified programme—how do we assist? Because whatever we are doing, with the media, the public would not know and be able to key into it”, he added.

Earlier, Chairperson of the NUJ FCT Ms Ike, thanked Chief Obuah for receiving her team and commended the AMMC Coordinator for the effective management and coordination of municipal services as well as infrastructural development in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

She used the occasion to commend his support for workers welfare which earned him the employee’s advocate award of the year award

She said “ I must commend your leadership efforts in ensuring proper maintenance and sustainable management of the city’s infrastructure, utilities, and services”

She highlighted major infrastructural challenges currently facing the NUJ FCT Council and requested support to improve their facilities such as the completion of the Pentagon building, and a hall that cannot house more than 2, 000 journalists during her monthly congress.

She also made a strong case for the NUJ FCT “Journalists’ Village”, which would offer journalists affordable housing and a suitable environment to carry out their work.

She said, “On behalf of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Federal Capital Territory Council, I express our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering commitment to the welfare of workers, including media professionals. Your kind gestures and support have not gone unnoticed and have greatly encouraged us in our mission.

“Today, we come with a sincere appeal for your support towards the establishment of a Journalists’ Village here in the FCT. This initiative is vital for providing affordable housing, professional facilities, and a conducive environment that will enhance the welfare and productivity of journalists who play a critical role in our democracy.

“We believe that with the AMMC’s collaboration, we can secure the necessary resources, land, and policy backing to bring this vision to fruition. Such a village will not only improve the living standards of journalists but also serve as a hub for capacity building, relaxation, and professional growth.

“We appreciate your past efforts and hope to count on your continued partnership to make this project a reality, thereby restoring dignity and stability to journalists who tirelessly serve the public interest” she added.
