Fintiri pardons five inmates, commutes two death sentences to life imprisonment
The Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has commuted the death sentences of two inmates to life imprisonment and pardoned five others.
The two inmates who had their death sentences commuted to life imprisonment are: Usman Inuwa and Joseph Eugene; they are both serving their terms at the Yola New Correctional Centre, jimeta.
In a statement issued yesterday in Yola and signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Humawashi Wonosikou, it stated that the other pardoned inmates are: Ali Abdul, Mohammed Goni, and Hapsatu Idi from the Yola Old Correctional Centre.
Others are Buba Usman Mai from Numan Correctional Centre, Yusuf Ali and Babala Benson from the Yola New Correctional Facility.
“As part of the 2024 Democracy Day celebrations, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has granted pardon to five inmates, including a female, from the various correctional centers in the state.
“Governor Fintiri’s actions are based on the advice of the Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy and the powers conferred on him by Section 212(i) (d) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended,” the statement added.
Continuing, the statement further noted that the release of the five inmates and the commutation of the two death sentences to life imprisonment takes immediate effect, pointing out that all legal formalities have been concluded with the correctional institutions.

The All Progressives Congress has congratulated the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on his re-election in the just-concluded governorship election.
Aiyedatiwa won the election, having polled a total of 366,781 votes across all 18 Local Government Areas of the state.
He defeated his closest rival — Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party, who got 117,845 votes.
In a statement issued by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, on Sunday, and made available to PUNCH Online, the party described Aiyedatiwa as a “clear attestation” that his administration’s policies “resonated deeply with the electorate.”
The statement read, “The All Progressives Congress (APC) heartily congratulates the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on his re-election.
“Your Excellency’s resounding victory in the just-concluded Ondo State gubernatorial election is a clear attestation that your administration’s policies and programmes and campaign message of hope and consolidation have resonated deeply with the electorate.
