Gunmen Abduct Naval Officer, 7 Others
The police in Akwa Ibom State have confirmed the abduction of a naval rating and seven other persons in the Ibaka Local Government Area of the state.
The confirmation was made by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Uyo on Tuesday.
According to her, the victims were kidnapped on Monday while relaxing at the Classic Point Hotel in Ibaka.
ASP John revealed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara, had already led a team of police officers to the community following a briefing on the abduction.
“The Commissioner of Police has already gone to the community with his team.”
“I can assure you that with that visit by the Commissioner of Police and other strategic approaches being taken, normalcy will return,” she said.
He added that the abductors whisked the victims away to an unknown destination.
Reacting to the incident, the Base Information Officer, Sub.-Lt. Nasiru Omar said he was yet to receive any official information to that effect regarding the abduction.
“I don’t know anything about it yet, you know how we do things if the incident is not official, I cannot say anything about it,” he said.
