FG Beefs Up Security at Borders Ahead of Planned Nationwide Protests
The Federal Government has stepped up security around all the nation’s borders against the mass nationwide protests slated to begin on August 1st and aimed at the current state of bad governance.
It was gathered that the Comptroller General of Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, has issued a directive for heightened surveillance and vigilance across the nation’s borders to all Zonal Heads, State Command Comptrollers, and Divisional Immigration Officers.
The increased security measure, according to the Service Spokesman, DCI Kenneth Udo, will forestall foreign elements who may gain access into the country with the view to joining the protest.
The Immigration Service has, therefore, suspended all leave applications and charged officers to exhibit a high level of professionalism and patriotism in discharge of their duties.
“He said the Service has charged its officers, particularly Heads of Commands at Border Commands, to rise to the challenge of ensuring that no foreign element takes advantage of the protest to destabilize the country in furtherance of the mandate given to the Service to ensure safety at the country’s gateways.”.
She has directed the temporary suspension of all leave applications and charges officers to exercise utmost professionalism and patriotism in the discharge of their duties during and after the protest, explaining that Nigeria is the only country we have as our own.
“The CGIS assures all Nigerians of the service’s preparedness to safeguard the nation’s borders towards enhancing national security,” said the statement.
These measures, as such, reaffirm their commitment to stability and security across the borders of Nigeria as the protest date draws closer.
