UNIBEN sets up panel to probe Prof over alleged Se3ual harassment
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, Professor Lilian Salami, has set up a committee to investigate the alleged sexual harassment levelled against a professor in the Faculty of Arts.
The secretary of the investigating committee, Barrister B.D. Jonathan, disclosed this in a circular in Benin City.
The circular disclosed that the suspected professor is from the Department of Philosophy.
The committee urged staff and students of the institution to provide relevant information and personal experience of any incident related to the allegation.
Jonathan opined that availing the committee with relevant information would help it actualise its mandate as well as carry out thorough and fair investigations.
He assured the staff and students that their identity would be protected, and all information would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
Recall that the management of the institution decided to constitute the committee after a graduate of the school reportedly took to social media and called out the lecturer.
The university alumnus alleged that she suffered untold sexual harassment from the said professor during her undergraduate studies.

Mohbad’s widow boasts, says she’s ready for DNA test
By Kayode Sanni-Arewa
Wunmi Aloba has decided to take a DNA test for her son Liam, a year after the Mohbad’s death.
Recall earlier this year during an Instagram live session, she made news by stating that she would never undergo a DNA test and claimed that it was Mohbad who took her virginity.
In her words; “I will never do any DNA test, no one can tell me to do DNA on my son Liam, Mohbad was the one who Disvirgined Me, and I have never slept with any Man other man in my entire life except Mohbad.”
In a recently released video, Barrister Akingbolu, who represents Wunmi, revealed that she has consented to the long-discussed DNA test for her son, Liam.
This test is intended to show her father-in-law, Mr. Joseph Aloba, and others that Liam is indeed the son of Mohbad.
Barrister Akingbolu explained that Wunmi had been hesitant to take the DNA test, even though she had initially agreed, due to the overwhelming pressure she experienced after her husband’s death. He claimed that Mr. Aloba and numerous online critics exploited her grief to put her in a difficult position.
Akingbolu made serious claims against Mr. Aloba, saying he used the media to create a negative campaign against his daughter-in-law and grandson.
He added that Wunmi’s decision to take the DNA test—without a court’s approval—was more than just obeying the law; it was a bold move for her son’s respect and her late husband’s legacy.

Get set for war with Israel, Iranian leader tells Military
By Kayode Sanni-Arewa
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has instructed the military to prepare for a potential war with Israel while advising efforts to avoid conflict, according to four Iranian officials.
The order comes amid escalating tensions and fears of retaliation from Israel after Iranian allies in Gaza and Lebanon suffered heavy losses.
The officials, speaking to Network Times on the condition of anonymity, revealed that Khamenei has directed military commanders to devise multiple strategies in response to a possible Israeli attack.
They emphasised that Iran’s response would depend on the scale of Israel’s aggression. If Israeli strikes target critical infrastructure such as nuclear facilities, energy hubs or result in high casualties, Iran has vowed to retaliate decisively.
Options under consideration include launching up to 1,000 ballistic missiles, mobilising proxy militant groups across the region, and disrupting energy shipments through the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, reiterated during the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, that any response would be “proportionate and calculated.”
Iran has also issued warnings to regional neighbours, stating that any support for Israel would make them targets. Araghchi claimed on Tuesday, during a press briefing in Kuwait, that Arab allies had assured Iran they would not permit Israeli jets to use their airspace or refuel at their bases.
Hostilities between Iran and Israel have escalated in recent months. Earlier this year, the two nations exchanged fire following an Israeli strike on an Iranian embassy in Syria. This month, Iran responded with a barrage of nearly 200 ballistic missiles after Israel assassinated Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah’s Hassan Nasrallah.
With tensions now at their peak, Iran has launched a diplomatic push to engage the United States through back channels, urging it to restrain Israel. Iranian leaders are also working to strengthen alliances with regional powers and are consulting with key allies, including Russia, China, and Turkey, to prevent war.
This development comes just days after China’s President Xi Jinping, an ally of Iran, ordered the military to enhance its war preparedness and boost combat capabilities, signaling a heightened focus on strategic deterrence amid rising tensions with the West.

Israel Attacks Iran with Precise Air Strikes
By Kayode Sanni-Arewa
Israel announced the launch of “precise strikes” on military targets in Iran on Saturday in retaliation for Iranian missile attacks, as an AFP journalist in Tehran reported hearing several explosions.
In response to months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran against the State of Israel –- right now the Israel Defense Forces (Israeli military) is conducting precise strikes on military targets in Iran,” the military said in a statement.
Israel had vowed to hit back at Iran following its October 1 missile attack, with Defence Minister Yoav Gallant saying the response would be “deadly, precise and surprising”.
Iran has said the strikes targeted military bases in Ilam, Khuzestan and Tehran provinces, causing “limited damage”.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said its aircraft hit facilities that made the missiles which were fired at Israel, and also struck surface-to-air missile sites.
It is the first time Israel’s military has openly attacked Iran, which has not faced a sustained barrage of fire from a foreign enemy since its 1980s war with Iraq.
Following the strikes that ended just before sunrise on Saturday, an IDF statement said: “Based on intelligence, IAF aircraft struck missile manufacturing facilities used to produce the missiles that Iran fired at the State of Israel over the last year.
“These missiles posed a direct and immediate threat to the citizens of the State of Israel.
Israel has been fighting Iran-backed Hamas in Gaza since the deadliest attack in its history on October 7, 2023, which killed 1,206 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally of official Israeli figures.
It has since broadened the scope of its operations to Lebanon, vowing to secure its northern border after nearly a year of attacks launched by Iran-backed Hezbollah in support of Hamas.
“Our defensive and offensive capabilities are fully mobilised,” the Israeli military said in a statement.
Military spokesman Daniel Hagari in a separate statement urged people to be “alert and vigilant”.
