She said, “I express my gratitude to the incredible people who have shown me so much love and so much support. I have received an invitation from an organiser of the Miss Universe Nigeria Beauty Pageant.”
Chidimma who spoke in a video that went viral on Wednesday said she is excited to have been invited by the organisers of the Nigerian beauty contest after what she recently faced in South Africa, her country of residence.
She said, “I express my gratitude to the incredible people who have shown me so much love and so much support. I have received an invitation from an organiser of the Miss Universe Nigeria Beauty Pageant.”
“This is a great excitement because I have decided to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria Beauty Pageant 2024,” she added.
Chidimma was born in Soweto, South Africa to a Nigerian father and a mother who is of Mozambican descent.
Chidimma Adetshina was a finalist of the Miss South Africa 2024 beauty pageant before she was forced to withdraw.
Social media attacks targeted her Nigerian heritage despite her being born in South Africa and meeting all competition requirements.
Adetshina eventually announced her withdrawal from the competition last Thursday, citing safety and the well-being of herself and that of her family members.
In the statement seen by SaharaReporters, Chidimma said, “I would like to start off by thanking everyone who has stood beside me right from the start of my Miss South Africa journey. I’m really grateful for all the love and support I have been shown.
“Being part of the Miss South Africa 2024 competition has been an amazing journey; however, after much careful consideration, I have made the difficult decision to withdraw myself from the competition for the safety and wellbeing of my family and I.
“With the support of the Miss South Africa Organisation, I leave with a heart full of gratitude for this amazing experience.”
Nigerians had taken to social media to express their outrage and disappointment over the online backlash against Chidimma, sparking a broader discussion on inclusion, diversity, and representation in the competition.
The controversy surrounds Mia Le Roux’s win, who, despite being born to white parents, emerged victorious over nine other predominantly black finalists to claim the coveted crown.
This revelation had fuelled the debate, with many questioning the implications of her win on representation and diversity.

Obasanjo narrates how he escaped becoming drug addict
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed how he almost became a drug addict.
He spoke in Abeokuta over the weekend at the second edition of ‘Fly Above The High’ anti-drug campaign conference organised by the Recovery Advocacy Network.
Obasanjo stated that smoking during his youthful age led to chronic coughing and almost became an addiction.
The former President, while lamenting the increase in drug abuse among Nigerians and other West Africans, urged Nigerian students and young people to refrain from abusing psychoactive drugs, saying that they ruin life rather than enhance it.
“If I had persisted, I could have become addicted. Once you get involved, it is difficult to get out.
“There’s nothing drug can do for you except destruction.
“We found out that West Africa has equally been a centre for drug consumption in a very bad way. That was more than 10 years ago, so the situation has since gone worse. And whatever applies to West Africa applies to all other parts of Africa,” Obasanjo said.
He cautioned against stigmatization and urged individuals who are already addicted to psychoactive drugs to get help.

We saved $20bn after Petrol Subsidy Removal and FX Rate Reforms, Says Finance Minister
Wale Edun, minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, says Nigeria has saved $20 billion from petrol subsidy removal and market-based pricing of the foreign exchange rate.
Edun spoke at a ceremony recently held to mark the first 100 days in office of Esther Walso-Jack, head of civil service of the federation, in Abuja.
“An amount of five per cent of GDP is what those two subsidies were costing when there was a subsidy on PMS; when there was petroleum product generally for a long time and when there was a subsidy of foreign exchange. Between them, they were costing five percent of GDP,” he said.
“If you say GDP was on average, let’s say $400 billion. We all know what five percent of that is – $20 billion of funds that could be going into infrastructure, health, social services, education.”
