Apart from the N1 million in damages and an additional N80,000 as the cost of prosecution, the acting registrar was also required to tender a written apology and an undertaking not to victimize or assault the complainant again.

The holiday is to mark the 7th day of Maulud Nabiy, commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
This was contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Baba Halilu Dantiye, issued to the press on Friday.
According to the statement, Governor Abba Yusuf called on the Muslim Ummah to deeply reflect on the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
He stressed that the Prophet’s life serves as a timeless guide for promoting peace, justice, humility, and compassion in both personal and communal spheres.

Yusuf urged the Muslim community to remain steadfast in adhering to the Qur’an and Sunnah.
“In the face of current moral and social challenges, it is vital for Muslims to return to the essence of Islam by reflecting the moral character of Prophet Muhammad. His life is a model of integrity, honesty, and service to humanity,” he said.
While wishing the Muslim Ummah a happy Maulud Nabiy celebration, the governor implored them to use the occasion to pray for peace and prosperity in the state and the nation.

Nigeria Will Suffer If INEC Mishandles Edo Election – Odinkalu
By Kayode Sanni-Arewa
Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chidi Odinkalu, has issued a stern warning, stating that Nigeria could face significant consequences if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) mishandles the ongoing Edo governorship election. In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, Odinkalu underscored the strategic importance of Edo State, stressing that any disruption in the election process could negatively affect the entire country.
Chidi Odinkalu remarked, “If Mahmood Yakubu and @inecnigeria mess with #EdoDecides2024, all of Nigeria will suffer: there is hardly anywhere you can go in Nigeria without passing through Edo
Odinkalu’s criticism of INEC’s chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, follows an earlier statement made on September 14, where he questioned Yakubu’s handling of election-related matters. His comments prompted a response from Kamson Chidubem, convener of the Civic Integrity Initiative (CII), who accused Odinkalu of engaging in “biased criticisms and media abuses.
