Asake under fire for smashing fan’s iPhone 16 in a bid to snap a selfie

Nigerian singer Asake is under fire following an incident in Germany that stirred huge controversy online.
Asake, who recently performed at a concert, allegedly broke a fan’s iPhone 16 Pro Max during an after-party, causing different outrage and disbelief from netizens.
In videos circulating on social media, the fan is seen attempting to capture a moment with Asake, who is idolized by many.
Suprisingly, the singer reportedly smashed the fan’s phone onto the ground, leaving it in ruins. Despite this unfortunate incident, the fan expressed continued love for Asake, saying he still loved him.
The video of the altercation has gone viral, inciting backlash from various netizens.

Many users criticized Asake’s behaviour, raising questions about respect, especially towards fans who idolize him.
One user, known as Superstar Radio Killer, questioned, “Can he do that to a white guy?”
Another user, Rima Harts, condemned the action as “gutter behavior.”
Others pointed out the racial implications of the incident, with users like Blunt Tace Okemiri and Scrummy Isaac questioning whether Asake would have acted the same way towards a white fan.
“Would he do that if that fan was a white boy? No! Black men and power show on their fellow blacks is never-ending,” one user stated.

The AMVCA is an annual award presented by Multichoice to recognise outstanding achievements in television, film, entertainment, and digital content creation throughout Nollywood and the entire African continent.
The award ceremony is held in Lagos, Nigeria, and broadcast live on all Africa Magic channels and the awards will be determined by a combination of public voting and a panel of judges.
The nominations, covering film, television, and digital content, recognise works released between January 1 and December 31, 2024.
Among the top contenders, Lisabi: The Uprising, Skeleton Coast, House of Ga’a, and Freedom Way secured multiple nominations across various categories, including Best Movie and Best Director.
In the acting categories, Gideon Okeke (Tokunbo), Stan Nze (Suspicion), Femi Adebayo (Seven Doors), and Adedimeji Lateef (Lisabi: The Uprising) were nominated for Best Lead Actor, while Chioma Chukwuka (Seven Doors), Bimbo Ademoye (Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre), and Uche Montana (Thinline) are among those vying for Best Lead Actress.
