Senate Confirms Professor Abdullahi Usman as National Hajj Commission Chairman
The Senate has officially confirmed Professor Abdullahi Usman as the Executive Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, following his nomination by President Bola Tinubu. Usman’s appointment was approved after the Senate adopted the report of its Committee on Foreign Affairs, led by Senator Abubakar Bello (APC-Niger North), during a session on Thursday.
President Tinubu had nominated Usman on August 19, 2024, through an announcement by his former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, followed by a formal letter to the Senate requesting his confirmation.
Usman, a distinguished scholar with extensive experience in Hajj operations, previously chaired the Kano State Pilgrim’s Board, where he oversaw the largest quota of state pilgrims in Nigeria. After a thorough screening, the Senate Committee concluded that Usman was well-qualified to lead the nation’s top Hajj body. His confirmation was sealed by a unanimous voice vote led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
