The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) on Sunday said the fourth body of the Port Harcourt crash victim has been recovered.

The Bureau says said the cause of the crash is unknown and that a report of the accident would be out in 30 days.

NSIB spokesperson Bimbo Oladeji, in a statement on Sunday, said, “A floating body was retrieved from the water and was escorted by the Cameroonian Navy to NUIMS Antan, for safe transit through their territorial waters.

Minimum wage fallout: FG ‘MDAs’ Salaries Between Oct-Dec To Be Delayed’

Published

on

Federal civil servants in 12 government ministries, departments, and agencies might see their salaries between October and December 2024 delayed.

This is due to the fact that the budget for personnel costs by the agencies has been exhausted.

This was caused by the recent approval of the new minimum wage.

A notice sent to public servants working with the Voice of Nigeria disclosed the new information.

The circular issued by the Director of Finance for Director-General, Jack Odeh, on October 22, 2024, titled “Notice of Delay in October 2024 Salary,” explained that the delay was caused by the payment of the 40 per cent CONPSS Peculiar Allowance which was not initially included in the 2024 budget.

It further stated that personnel costs from the month of October to December 2024 will be augmented from the Service Wide Vote, hence a slight delay in the payment of salaries.

However, the Director of Press at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa, said the issue in question had an impact on not more than 12 MDAs, though he did not provide the specific names of entities involved.

The notice read, “Consequent to the Federal Government implementation of the minimum wage in September 2024, and the non-inclusion of the 40 per cent CONPSS Peculiar Allowance in the 2024 budget, the Voice of Nigeria personnel budget has been exhausted.

“VON’s personnel cost from the month of October to December 2024 will therefore have to be augmented from the Service Wide Vote. We regret to inform the staff and management that there will be a slight delay in the payment of salaries for the period of October to December 2024.

“This is due to the ongoing process of augmentation, which requires necessary approvals from relevant authorities for VON and other ministries, departments and agencies involved. Please take note.”

‘It’s An Abomination For Nigeria To Be Importing Fuel’ – Governors declare

Published

on

Governors of the 36 states of the federation have condemned Nigeria’s continued dependence on the importation of petroleum to meet its local demands of fuel consumption.

The Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, who spoke to newsmen on behalf of his colleagues after the meeting of the Governors, which also had in attendance the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, said it is an aberration for Nigeria as an oil-producing country to be importing fuel.

The Governors called for the repair of the refineries in the country to make petroleum products more available and affordable to Nigerians and alleviate the suffering in the land.

They also called for support for Dangote Refinery.

Uzodinma said, “We must encourage the homegrown solution that the President just introduced; encouraging Dangote Refinery. We should repair our Port Harcourt Refinery, repair our Warri Refinery, repair our Kaduna Refinery, and then produce what we eat, and eat what we produce.

“We shouldn’t rely on importation of crude oil. For me, it is an aberration in the first place, to rely on importation of petroleum products as an oil producing country, while other members of OPEC of our status are now refining crude oil in that country.”

The Governors supported the move to purchase petroleum products in naira, adding that local refining of petroleum products would open an avalanche of opportunities for the citizens and boost the country’s economy through employment and other benefits.

“If you refine petroleum products locally, you will cure jobs, you will cure unemployment, you will keep people busy, you will reduce crime, and then you will also be proud to answer an oil producing nation,” he said.
