Foreign fighters behind terror attacks in N’west, N’east, says DHQ
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) yesterday attributed the resurgence of terrorist attacks in the Northeast and Northwest to the influx of foreign fighters.
The activities of the foreign fighters, who serve as reinforcements for the terrorists, are aided by local informants, Director of Defence Media Operation, Maj.-Gen Edward Buba, said.
Also, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, who lamented the killings and violence, cautioned residents against collaborating with insurgents.
President Bola Tinubu had six days ago ordered the probe of the January 6 terror attack in Borno State. Over 40 persons, including soldiers, were killed. There have also been other attacks in Sokoto and Katsina states in which lives were lost.
Gen. Buba said at a news conference in Abuja that local collaborators often provided terrorists information on troops’ movements.
He said despite the challenge, the military was committed to combating terrorism and other security threats in the country.
Buba said: “The resurgence in terror attacks can be attributable to the influx of foreign fighters who came in as reinforcements for these terrorists. These foreign fighters are from the Sahelian Region.
‘’ The other contributing factor is the support from local collaborators who serve as informants, reporting on troops’ movements.
“In spite of the situation, troops are profoundly conscious of their role and responsibility in ending insurgency and terrorism in the nation. Though we might record occasional tactical setbacks.
“Our strategic objective remains unhindered and it is to break the terrorist will to fight. In essence, defeating an enemy means destroying or breaking his will to fight.
“We are achieving this by the cumulative effort of killing their operatives, commanders, and other senior leaders .
“We are taking away their most important assets such as logistics, administration, and fighting capabilities.
‘’We are also applying regional and international pressure, as well as engaging the media. All these combine to destroy the terrorists’ will to fight.”
“We understand that this war is not a quick fix, but a long and enduring military operation at the end of which these terrorists will be destroyed and we will have a better world.”
He also emphasised the significance of collective responsibility in ensuring national security.
“Sadly, we are not there yet but inching closer every day. On the whole, security is everybody’s business. We must not compromise on security, otherwise, we compromise everyone’s security.
“Significantly, as you “dey for, who dey for you” this year. Know that, “the military dey for you, dey for us,” Buba said.
Giving updates on troops’ successes in the past week, Gen. Buba said 156 terrorists were neutralised and 464 arrested for different crimes.
He added troops nabbed 29 oil thieves and rescued 181 kidnap victims.
The troops, according to him, recovered 219 high calibre weapons and 2,871 ammunition.
In the Niger Delta 48 crude oil cooking ovens, 10 dugout pits, 56 storage tanks, and 46 illegal refining sites were also destroyed .
Buba added that troops recovered 705,294 litres of stolen crude oil, 6,865 litres of illegally refined diesel , 1,500 litres of kerosene, and 800 litres of petrol.
Twenty eight boats, eight pumping machines, six speedboats, three outboard boats, six drums, eight motorcycles and eight vehicles were also seized by troops.
In Jos, Media Officer of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Samson Zhakom told reporters that 18 suspected kidnappers, bandits, and gunrunners were arrested in Plateau and Kaduna states.
Eighteen persons kidnapped in a forest between Plateau and Taraba states were rescued .

Dangote raises petrol prices to N955 from N899/litre for bulk buyers
By Francesca Hangeior.
Sequel to a consistent surge in the price of Brent, the global benchmark for crude, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has communicated an upward adjustment in the price of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, to its customers.
In an email statement obtained by our Correspondent on Friday, the refinery announced that its refined products would now be priced at N955 per litre at the loading gantry, marking an adjustment in its pricing structure.
It noted that marketers buying between 2 million – 4.99 million litres will now buy at N955 per litre while 5 million litres & above will buy at N950 per litre.
The amount marks an increase of N55.5 or 6.17 per cent from N899.50 per litre announced as a holiday discount for Nigerians last year December.
This adjustment applies to all stock balances yet to be lifted by the stated time while pending stock as of the effective time will also be repriced at the updated rates.
The statement added that the new price regime will take effect from 5:30 PM, today.
The notice titled, “Communication on PMS Price Review” read, “Dear Esteemed Customer, Trust this email finds you well.
“Kindly be advised that effective from 5:30 PM today, an upward adjustment has been implemented on the gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit.
“We shall communicate with customers on their revised volumes based on the reviewed prices, in due course.”
The price increase is expected to have widespread effects on the downstream petroleum sector, particularly private depots and retail markets.
An oil and gas expert, Olatide Jeremiah, said depots are poised to increase the loading price of refined petroleum products because of the heavy influence of the refinery.
Jeremiah, who is the Chief Executive Officer of petroleum price.ng, said, “Dangote Refinery’s influence on Fuel price has become unmatched; private depots, Major marketers, and independent Marketers will compete with this new price. Therefore, Nigerians should expect an increase in Petrol Pump Price.
Brent Crude oil as of today is $81.84, highest in 2025, its one major factor for the increase.”
On Thursday, the Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, disclosed that the price of crude oil in the international market remains a major force in driving the fluctuations in the pump prices of petrol.
He said the downstream sector is now fully deregulated with the government no longer involved in setting prices.

Late Alaafin of Oyo’s daughter drags Queen Dami
* Exposes her over paternity of her child
* Says, the Alaafin’s throne is not to be rubbished
By Francesca Hangeior.
Adeyemi Adebisi Aminat, the daughter of the late Alaafin of Oyo State, has dragged his ex-wife, Queen Dami over her social media shenanigans.
In a series of posts on her Instagram story, she pointed out the irony of how Dami was shaming someone over paternity of their child, yet, doesn’t know the father of her child. She claimed the former Queen bought the child from Port Harcourt.
Adebisi stated that the fact that this palace isn’t talking doesn’t mean they don’t know what to say. She further stated that the Alaafin’s throne is not to be rubbished as she admonished Dami not to play with her.
Adebisi revealed that she had all the blood tests and evidence before the King passed away.
“Dammy you are insulting someone that they don’t know the father of their child. Do you know the father of your own child? The child you went to buy in Port Harcourt. The fact that we are not talking doesn’t mean we don’t know what to say.
The Alaafin’s throne is not to be rubbished. Don’t play with me. I have all the blood tests and evidence before the king passed away. Go and give the child to the rightful owner”.
Recall that Queen Dami was married to the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyeye but the marriage crashed after she allegedly broke a palace rule, an act that prompted her to leave her marriage and run away from the palace.
She later blamed the whole act on frustration and wrong advice from friends. Unfortunately, her relationship with the monarch was never repaired before his demise last year.
Following the death of the King, Dami publicly moved on with Portable, who confirmed their relationship in an interview in 2023.
Portable stated that Queen Dami was only a fan before the death of her husband, the King, but things switched up from there as he wasn’t one to have an affair with people’s wives.
Dami later went public with their affair on Valentine’s Day.
She shared an adorable message for Portable, on her Instagram, as she excitedly expressed that Portable was her man, while also stating that he had her whole heart.

Haaland signs 10-year contract with Manchester City
By Francesca Hangeior.
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has signed a new 10-year contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2034, the club announced on Friday.
The 24-year-old Norwegian, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, has been a pivotal figure in the club’s recent successes.
His initial contract was set to expire in 2027, but the new deal reflects the club’s confidence in Haaland’s importance to their future.
“Erling Haaland has signed a new 10-year Manchester City contract, keeping him at the Club until the summer of 2034,” the statement said.
Reflecting on the new contract, Haaland expressed his delight at extending his stay.
“I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club.
“Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters, and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody,” he said.
Haaland thanked his teammates, manager Pep Guardiola, and the City staff, stating, “They have made this such a special place to be, and now I am City no matter what. I want to keep developing, keep working to get better, and help us achieve more success going forward.”
Since his arrival, Haaland’s impact has been nothing short of extraordinary. In his debut 2022/23 season, he scored 52 goals across all competitions, the highest-ever tally by a Premier League player in a single season, breaking the previous league record of 36 goals.
His goals were instrumental in City’s historic treble-winning campaign, which included the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League titles.
In addition to collective success, Haaland garnered numerous individual accolades in his debut season, including the PFA Player of the Year, Premier League Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, and the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year awards.
Despite an injury that sidelined him for nearly two months during the 2023/24 season, Haaland continued his prolific form, scoring 38 goals in 45 appearances, including 27 in the Premier League, securing a second consecutive Golden Boot.
