Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has disclosed that his administration is currently engaging in discussions with a Chinese company to initiate a groundbreaking light rail construction project that will span the entirety of the state.
This significant announcement was made public during an interview on the Thursday edition of “Politics Today” on Channels Television, which took place on Thursday, February 29, 2024.
Governor Otti revealed this ambitious plan in response to a question from the program’s anchor regarding the fulfillment of one of his key campaign pledges to undertake the construction of a light rail system if he were to be elected as the governor of Abia State in the recent gubernatorial elections.
“We are discussing with a Chinese company and the discussions are going on well.
“It is not going to be easy, but it is going to be done.
“It is not something that you will just start and finish today,” Otti stated.

NDC: Dickson, Obi hold closed door meeting amid internal crises
The National Leader of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, Senator Seriake Dickson, on Friday held a closed-door meeting with the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, amid recent crises in the party.
Dickson made this known in a statement on his official X handle, revealing that the meeting, which lasted nearly three hours, was attended by Obi and other senior party leaders.
“I just received my brother, colleague, and partner in the New Nigerian Project, His Excellency Mr Peter Gregory Obi, CON, our presidential candidate, who, together with some distinguished leaders of our party, held a closed-door meeting which lasted about three hours.
“In the course of that meeting, we reviewed the activities of our party and discussed a few recent issues that have been a source of concern to all sides, and we amicably resolved all the issues.

Video: Sowore collapses after police tear-gassed Abuja protesters
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has reportedly collapsed and was subsequently taken to a hospital following a confrontation with the Nigerian police during a Democracy Day protest.
Witnesses at the scene alleged that Sowore collapsed after police operatives moved to disperse protesters gathered to demonstrate against insecurity, economic hardship and what they described as poor governance, at the Phase 1 Bridge before Federal Secretariate.
The protest, which attracted scores of activists and civil society groups, was disrupted after security personnel deployed tear gas canisters in an apparent attempt to break up the gathering.
It was reported that chaos erupted as protesters scampered for safety amid clouds of tear gas. In the confusion, Sowore was reportedly affected by the tear gas and subsequently lost consciousness.
Supporters and fellow activists immediately rushed to his aid and evacuated him from the protest ground. Sources close to the activist said he regained consciousness while being transported away from the scene in a vehicle.
Following the incident, Sowore has now been reportedly taken to an undisclosed hospital for further examination and treatment.
The incident heightened tensions at the Democracy Day protest, where demonstrators had gathered to express concerns over rising insecurity, economic challenges and governance issues in the country.
