Confirming the incident, Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Adaku Uche-Anya, said the officer who allegedly fired the shot and the soldier involved in the scuffle have been taken into custody as investigations continue.

“Police officers on stop-and-search stopped the purported soldier for a search. He refused, and a scuffle broke out during which he tried to disarm one of the officers. A bullet was accidentally discharged and hit a bystander,” Uche-Anya explained.

She further stated: “One person died on the spot, while three injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at the hospital. Both the soldier and the police officer are in custody, and a thorough investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
