In a clarion call to action, Hon. E.J. Agbonayinma, FMHR, the distinguished Federal Commissioner at the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), has called on all patriotic and well-meaning Nigerians to rise in unity and commitment to support the ongoing fight against corruption in the country.
Speaking at a recent forum organized to deepen public awareness on integrity and transparency in governance, Hon. Agbonayinma emphasized that corruption remains one of the greatest threats to national development, peace, and justice. He noted that while government agencies such as the CCB are at the forefront of enforcing compliance and promoting ethical conduct, the war against corruption cannot be won without the active participation of every citizen.
“Corruption is a societal ill that weakens institutions, erodes public trust, and deepens inequality. It is our collective responsibility — as citizens, public servants, private sector actors, and civil society — to speak out and act decisively against it,” Hon. Agbonayinma stated.
He highlighted the strategic role of the CCB in promoting accountability among public officers by ensuring they adhere to the highest standards of conduct, as enshrined in the Code of Conduct for Public Officers. He also commended the Bureau’s ongoing reforms and partnerships aimed at enhancing transparency and restoring confidence in governance.
Hon. Agbonayinma urged Nigerians to see the fight against corruption not just as a government initiative but as a national crusade that demands vigilance, integrity, and unity. “We must all be watchdogs of the public interest. If we truly desire a just and prosperous Nigeria, then we must reject corrupt practices in all forms — whether big or small,” he added.
In conclusion, the Federal Commissioner reaffirmed his commitment and that of the Bureau to remain relentless in upholding accountability, promoting good governance, and protecting the future of Nigeria through institutional integrity.
