President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone has been appointed the new Chair of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
The announcement was made during the 67th Ordinary Session of the Authority, currently underway in Abuja, Nigeria.
President Bio succeeds Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose tenure as Chair has officially concluded after leading the regional bloc through two terms.
The transition of leadership was fformalised at the high-level summit, attended by West African heads of state and key regional stakeholders.
