According to Channels Television, Fuddang said the victims were returning from the weekly market in Bokkos town on Thursday when their vehicle came under attack by the assailants.

He said the killing comes barely two days after a man was murdered in the same area.

The BCDF chairman said up to 100 people have been killed in the area within the last two years, including over 60 murdered on Christmas Eve in 2023.

Alfred Alabo, police spokesperson in Plateau, was not immediately available for comments on the incident when contacted. Calls and messages to his mobile phone went unanswered and unreplied.

There has been a rise in gunmen attacks in the state in recent times.

On July 15, 27 farmers, including women, were killed when gunmen attacked the Bindi-Jebbu and Tahoss communities in the Riyom LGA of the state.

The farmers were laid to rest in a mass burial on Friday, July 25.

On June 21, 12 wedding-bond passengers were killed by a mob in the Mangun District of the Mangu LGA of the state.
