In a statement by its Corporate Communications Department, this event aims to honor and inspire the growing role of women, particularly in civil aviation, while showcasing African women’s tenacity, capable of succeeding in any professional context.

The statement reads: “The flight took place last Sunday within the Luanda–Johannesburg–Luanda itinerary, operated by a crew of thirteen highly qualified professionals.

“The scheduling of this 100% female-crewed flight is a demonstration of TAAG Angola Airlines’ strong commitment to gender equality and career opportunities within the company.

“The “People and Community” focus is one of the fundamental axes in TAAG’s corporate strategy, and this action aligns with the promotion of core values of inclusion, diversity, and meritocracy as success factors for an equity and innovation work environment”.

Africa’s Women’s Day offers a national, continental and global opportunity to recall and affirm the significant role of African women in the evolution of a strong Pan-African identity, with shared values, objectives and vision for the future, as well as women being key contributors towards achieving Africa’s inclusive growth and sustainable development agenda anchored in the AU vision of an integrated prosperous and peaceful Africa

Out of TAAG’s approximately 2600 employees, and considering gender distribution, about 69% are men, and 31% are women.

“Thus, multiple leadership roles are occupied by women in both administrative and operational areas.

We also mention that at C-level positions, 50% of the airline’s Executive Committee, which is led by the CEO, Nelson Rodrigues de Oliveira, are led by women, namely, the financial, HR & legal, and procurement global directorates”, it added.

Africa’s Women’s Day was proclaimed as a day to be commemorated during the first conference of the Pan-African Women’s Organization (PAWO) which was held in July 1962 in Dar es Salaam Tanganyika (now known as Tanzania).
