Only two Nigerians are included in the Ballon d’Or 2025 nomination shortlists published on Thursday.
They are Super Falcons goalkeeper Nnadozie Chiamaka and the team coach, Justine Madugu.
24-year-old Chiamaka, who recently secured a move from Paris FC to Brighton, was nominated for the 2025 Women’s Yachine Trophy.
The goalkeeper will battle Ann-Katrin Berger, Cata Coll, Daphne van Domselaar, and Hannah Hampton for the award.
Madugu makes the cut for Women’s Team Coach of the Year.
The Super Falcons coach, who led the team to a record-extending 10th Women’s African Cup of Nations last month, is the only man in the shortlist.
He will be up against Renée Slegers, Sonia Bompastor, Sarina Wiegman, and Arthur Elias.
Meanwhile, Ademola Lookman, who plays for Atalanta in Serie A, was the only Nigerian to be nominated across all categories.
