In a dramatic twist, the House of Representatives has announced that it will reconvene for plenary on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, overturning its earlier resolution to stay adjourned until the following week.
The unexpected reversal came after what officials described as “positive developments” from ongoing engagements and government-level interventions over key issues that had prompted the earlier suspension of sittings, notably the grievances of indigenous contractors and delays in the release of funds under the 2024/2025 budget.
In a memorandum circulated to lawmakers on Tuesday evening, the Clerk of the House, Dr Yahaya Danzaria, Esq., formally notified Members of the decision to reconvene.
According to the communication, the early resumption will enable the House Leadership to brief Members on the progress made in resolving the contentious issues, as well as other matters of national importance.
At Wednesday’s plenary, the House is also expected to formally rescind its previous resolution on adjournment to allow proceedings to continue without disruption.
Spokesman of the House, Rep. Akin Rotimi (mnipr), urged all Members to make necessary arrangements to attend the session, emphasising the importance of the discussions ahead.
“The Leadership urges all Honourable Members to be present, as crucial updates will be shared on the matters that necessitated the earlier adjournment,” Rotimi stated.
