The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, was celebrated on Saturday as she received the “Excellence in Media Leadership and Advocacy Award” from the School of Communications and Media Studies, Learn To Live Business School UK (LLBSUK).

The honour was a key moment at the institution’s 2025 Post-Graduate Programme awards ceremony, which recognised graduates of its Post-Graduate Diploma Cohorts 1 and 2, as well as the 2025 Master Class group, known collectively as the “Titans”. Their studies focused on Strategic Communications and Media Management Consultancy.

The ceremony, marked by a sense of accomplishment and professional pride, drew media academics, industry practitioners and families of the graduands. Among the graduands were Associate Editor NAIJA BLITZ NEWS, Woyinkari Gloria Ikibah, Funmilayo Evelyn Akintola, Arit Effanga, Yecenu Joyce Sasetu and others who completed the demanding programme.

Comrade Ike’s award was presented by Chief Emeka Mba, former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission and Chairman of AFIA Television. He highlighted her pioneering contributions to media leadership, and noted that her years of advocacy, mentorship and steadfast commitment to press freedom have positioned her as a significant voice within Nigeria’s media community.

“This award recognises Comrade Grace Ike as an outstanding individual who has demonstrated exemplary leadership in advancing the values of ethical journalism, Free expression and responsible media practice “ he added

Responding to the recognition, Comrade Ike conveyed deep gratitude for the honour, noting that it was both uplifting and humbling.

She added that the award serves as a renewed reminder to strengthen her efforts towards media reform and national development.

“I am delighted by this recognition from the School of Communications and Media Studies.

“Strategic communication remains central to every sphere of human endeavour and to our national development. We must continue to refine how we tell our stories and how we engage the public”, she added.

She restated her resolve to responsible journalism, and pledged to continue championing narratives that rebuild public confidence in the media.

“I will do my best to inspire my people to tell stories that will shape public trust.

“The Media must remain a credible bridge between the Government, Institutions, and the Citizens,” she added.

For Comrade Grace Ike, the occasion marked another significant step in a career distinguished by strong advocacy, steady determination, and influential leadership within Nigeria’s dynamic media sector.

For the graduating students, it signalled the start of a fresh journey. Many shared their enthusiasm about advancing into more demanding professional roles, now armed with enhanced skills in strategic communication, media ethics, and development reporting — expertise that institutions such as LLBSUK aim to instil to help strengthen the industry in the years ahead.

The ceremony drew to a close with the presentation of certificates and awards, followed by group photographs and lively exchanges among academics and media professionals.
