The United Kingdom (UK) has announced a major shift in its visa system, confirming that from February 25, 2026, visitors who require a visa will receive only an electronic visa (eVisa).
The announcement was made by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) in a post on X, stating that eligible travellers will instead be issued electronic visas (eVisas).
According to UKVI, travellers must create a UKVI account and view their eVisa online before travelling.
“From 25 February 2026, visitors to the UK, who need a visa, will get an eVisa only. Create your UKVI account and view your eVisa before you travel to the UK,” the statement read.
The UK government explains that an eVisa is “a digital record of your identity and immigration status – for example, the type of visa you have or if you have indefinite leave to remain (settlement) in the UK – and the conditions of your status, for example, if you’re allowed to work or study in the UK.”
It added that eVisas are replacing physical immigration documents, noting, “Biometric residence permits (BRPs) have already been replaced by eVisas. They will also replace biometric residence cards (BRCs) and wet ink stamps or vignettes (stickers) in passports.”
Travellers will typically receive an eVisa “when you successfully apply for a visa or other type of permission to be in the UK.”
Once issued, users can “view your eVisa and get a share code to prove your immigration status, for example, when you get a new job or rent a home,” and can travel after adding passport or travel document details.
According to the UK government, accessing the eVisa requires a UKVI account.
“You can set up a UKVI account if you do not already have one. You do not need to pay to set up a UKVI account or access your eVisa,” the UK government website confirmed.
The Oyo State Police Command has nabbed 10 suspected members of a human parts trafficking syndicate and recovered suspected human remains, including a heart and pieces of a skull, during an intelligence-led operation in the state.
The suspects were arrested at their various hideouts in Iseyin and Saki areas of Oyo State following months of intelligence gathering, discreet surveillance and monitoring by operatives of the Command’s Monitoring Unit.
The suspects were identified as Adam Ibrahim, 42; Nasiru Kabiru, 22; Tijani Wasiu, 54; Abiola Nasiru, 45; Amusa Gbadamosi, 57; Raheem Taofeek, 46; Jimoh Muritala, 35; Suleiman Busari, 47; Ganiyu Nurudeen, 36; and Usman Abdullahi, 52.
According to the police, searches conducted at the suspects’ hideouts led to the recovery of several suspected human parts, including one suspected human heart, human flesh, pieces of human skull and assorted charms.
The Command said the recovered items had been secured as exhibits and would undergo forensic examination as investigations continue.
The suspects reportedly confessed during interrogation to varying degrees of involvement in the alleged trade in human parts for ritual purposes. The police said they were also assisting investigators in tracing the source of the recovered items, as well as establishing how they were procured and their intended use.
The Command added that efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the alleged syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the operatives for the successful intelligence-led operation and their painstaking efforts in tracking down the suspects.poli
He assured residents that the Command would continue to intensify its efforts to combat criminal activities and protect lives and property across the state.
Ahead of today’s guber poll, the Police has deployed some of its security dogs to Osun state to ensure seurity is not breeched during and after the election.
The police dogs have been prepared to assist security personnel in detecting and confronting potential threats from violent criminals.
The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, has reportedly been placed under house arrest, with unidentified security operatives in police uniforms surrounding his residence in Osun State.
According to reports, the security personnel arrived at the Speaker’s residence in more than 10 black Hilux vehicles and allegedly cordoned off the premises.
The Imole Campaign Council said it attempted to contact senior police officers and the Police Situation Room to obtain clarification on the development but was unable to reach them.
It also urged security agencies and political actors to ensure that the electoral process remains peaceful and free from intimidation, fear or interference.
The council called on residents and all stakeholders to remain calm, obey the law and await an official explanation from the relevant authorities.
As of the time of filing this report, there had been no official explanation from the police or other security agencies regarding the reported operation at the Speaker’s residence.
