Plateau Peace Advocates for Good Governance and Social Stability, PPAGGSS has called on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State to resist divisive tendencies and preserve what it described as a rare moment of political unity across the state.
In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Ibrahim D. Lengshak, the group warned that allowing internal cracks within the party could reverse the gains recorded in recent efforts to stabilise the state politically and socially.
According to the group, Plateau is witnessing an unprecedented level of political convergence, cutting across party lines and interests, a development it said should not be sacrificed on the altar of personal ambition or external manipulation.
PPAGGSS specifically cautioned both longstanding members of the APC and new entrants into the party to avoid actions or utterances and promotion of divisions and sharing ratios only known to those promoting the division.
The group urged party faithful to draw inspiration from leading political figures in the state, including Governor Caleb Mutfwang, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, and former governor Simon Lalong, whom it credited with setting aside political differences to foster cohesion.
“So far, these leaders have not disappointed us in their common zeal for the good of the state and the party and it behoves those who claim to support them not to break ranks.
“The unity we are beginning to see on the Plateau is not accidental. It is the product of deliberate efforts by leaders who have chosen to rise above differences for the common good,” Ishaku said.
PPAGGSS noted that the alignment among these leaders represents a strategic foundation for peace and development, stressing that their example should guide grassroots supporters and stakeholders within the party.
The group also raised concern over what it described as the activities of “divisive elements” seeking to exploit perceived differences within the APC for personal gain.
“These are individuals who neither laboured for the present stability nor contributed to the building of consensus, yet they are eager to sow discord for selfish reasons,” the statement said.
It warned that such tendencies, if unchecked, could plunge the state back into a cycle of political fragmentation that has historically undermined governance and security.
Emphasising the broader implications of unity, PVD said that a cohesive political front is essential in addressing the lingering security challenges affecting communities across Plateau.
According to the group, insecurity remains a shared concern that transcends political affiliations, making it imperative for stakeholders to close ranks rather than deepen divisions.
“Plateau cannot afford to return to an era where political differences weaken collective resolve. The threats we face today require unity, cooperation, and a shared commitment to peace,” Ishaku added.
The group, therefore, urged APC members to project a united front in both words and actions, stressing that sustaining the current atmosphere of cooperation would be critical in consolidating peace, strengthening governance, and advancing development across the state.

A massive crowd of party faithful thronged Agege on Saturday, May 16, as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, secured his place as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.

The hitch-free primary exercise saw card-carrying members in their numbers validate his candidacy, underscoring the strength of his grassroots support.
The development comes just days after Obasa’s May 13 declaration at a stakeholders’ meeting in Agege, where he announced his ambition to contest for the federal seat.
At that earlier event, he explained that his decision was driven by calls from party leaders and stakeholders who believed he could serve Agege more effectively at the national level.
“I answered the call of our leaders and stakeholders who believe I can serve Agege better. We must present candidates with capacity, loyalty, and commitment to the progress of Agege,” Obasa had said.
At the primary election, Obasa expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from his constituency.
“I am deeply humbled by the confidence reposed in me by our leaders and members. Today’s validation is not just about me; it is about our collective resolve to continue building Agege and Lagos State on the foundation of progress and development,” he remarked.
He further pledged to remain people-focused in his representation: “My commitment has always been to serve with integrity, to amplify the voices of our people, and to ensure that Agege continues to stand tall in the comity of constituencies.This validation strengthens my resolve to deliver more dividends of democracy.”
Party officials praised the peaceful conduct of the exercise, noting that it reflected the unity and discipline within the APC in Agege.
Observers also pointed to Obasa’s earlier endorsement of Hon. Ganiyu Egunjobi for Agege Constituency I and Hon. Azeez Oladapo Yusuf Ninolowo for Agege Constituency II as evidence of his broader strategy to consolidate party cohesion.
With the primary now concluded, Obasa is set to fly the APC flag in the forthcoming general election, a move that many believe will further entrench the party’s influence in Agege.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced special discounts on nomination and expression of interest forms for women, youths, and persons living with disabilities as part of efforts to encourage broader participation in Nigeria’s democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the party said the initiative reflects its commitment to inclusiveness and equal political opportunities for all Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora.
According to Enekweizu, economic limitations, age, gender barriers, and physical disabilities should not prevent citizens from contributing to nation-building through active political participation.
“The fact that someone is young and may not be a money bag or is disadvantaged by some physical disabilities should not shut him or her from contributing their quota to nation-building,” the statement read.
The NDC also argued that women have historically faced cultural and structural barriers that limited their participation in politics and governance.
“Women, due to cultural and other inhibitions, have also been largely receiving the short end of the democracy stick. They, therefore, need some form of affirmative action to give them the needed push to participate and contest,” Enekweizu stated.
The party maintained that Nigeria risks undermining its democratic growth if women, who make up nearly half of the population, remain underrepresented in leadership and elective positions.
As part of the new measures, the NDC announced that all female aspirants on its platform will pay only 50 percent of the official cost for both Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.
Similarly, aspirants between the ages of 18 and 35 will also enjoy a 50 percent reduction in fees, while Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) will pay only 25 percent of the advertised costs.
The statement further clarified that Presidential, Governorship, and National Assembly nomination forms would be obtained at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, while forms for State House of Assembly positions would be available at the party’s state offices nationwide.
The move comes amid increasing calls for greater youth inclusion, gender balance, and accessibility in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
