Bandits Abduct Woman And Her 2 Newborn Babies; Demand N15Million Ransom
A group of bandits kidnapped a woman and her two newborn babies, aged just 34 days, from their home in Kurfi town, Katsina State.
The abduction occurred last Friday when the terrorists raided the woman’s village.
The incident was reported by Bakastine, a conflict journalist in the northwest region, via X on Tuesday.
The journalist wrote: “Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un!!!
“These newborns, just 34 days into the world have been held captive along with their mother since Friday night after being abducted in Kurfi town, Katsina State. A ransom of 15 million naira has been demanded for their release.”
The situation has taken a dire turn, as the terrorists have reportedly reached out to the family with a ransom demand of N15 million in exchange for the safe release of the woman and her two newborn babies.
The news has sparked widespread concern and outrage on Nigerian Twitter, with many users expressing deep worry for the well-being and safety of the vulnerable captives, particularly the 34-day-old infants.
ASP Sadiq Aliyu, the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters via WhatsApp on Tuesday evening.
He also revealed that one suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the kidnapping.
He said: “We are making frantic efforts to ensure their rescue. One person has been arrested so far in connection with the case. Investigations are still ongoing.”

South Korea’s impeached president gets pay rise
By Francesca Hangeior
Suspended South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol will receive a scheduled pay rise, official documents showed on Monday, despite an impeachment trial and investigation into his ill-fated martial law declaration.
Yoon suspended civilian rule on December 3, sending soldiers into parliament and plunging South Korea into its worst political crisis in decades. He was forced to backtrack hours later.
He has been impeached by lawmakers and is awaiting a final Constitutional Court ruling that could finalise his removal from office, while separately facing an insurrection probe with investigators seeking to detain him for questioning.
However, Yoon was given a raise, according to the civil servant salary table for 2025, even as he remains holed up in the presidential residence using his security detail to resist arrest.
The document from the Ministry of Personnel Management, seen by AFP on Monday, indicates Yoon’s salary will rise to 262.6 million won ($178,400) — a three percent raise compared with last year.
Yoon is only suspended from duty because the impeachment motion is still being deliberated by the Constitutional Court, so he retains his status as president and will be able to receive his salary and security benefits.
His successor as acting president, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, who was himself impeached and is now suspended from office, will also receive a salary raise of three percent to 203.5 million ($138,350).
“It makes my blood boil. He’s (Yoon) getting paid for doing nothing,” one user wrote in a post on social media platform X that quickly went viral.
Yoon has refused to meet prosecutors and investigators probing his martial law declaration, and his presidential guard unit thwarted an attempt to arrest him following a tense, hours-long standoff this month.
Investigators are preparing another arrest attempt.
Rival protests for and against Yoon have been staged almost daily in the South Korean capital since the crisis began.

Court grants bail to woman who stopped Ibom Air flight to Abuja over luggage
By Francesca Hangeior
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has said that a female passenger, who caused the cancellation of an Ibom Air flight to Abuja, has been charged to court and granted bail.
The woman, whose identity had yet to be confirmed, caused a scene over the weekend when airline officials refused to carry her overweight luggage with her on the same flight.
Ibom Air earlier announced to passengers that luggage exceeding 20kg would not arrive on the same flight but on the next duplicated flight of the airline.
The dispute over the passenger’s luggage dragged on until the airline cancelled the flight.
Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, Micheal Achimugu, on Monday, told journalists that the woman was detained by the police for two nights and granted bail by a court.
He said, “The regulations state firmly that no provocation justifies violence at the airport. Certain acts, especially holding up the movement of an aircraft through means of violence, could be interpreted as terrorism depending on the severity (to be determined by the police).
“She was taken to the police and was in detention for two nights. She has been charged to court but granted bail. That was the last information I got from the airline and later today (Monday), I will get further information.”
Achimugu said he would meet with other officials to determine why the woman was not deboarded to avoid holding other passengers to ransom.
“It is when things like this happen that we see the lapses and areas where we need to improve. Because the response should have been quicker and the action should have also been faster,” he said.

S3x-enhancing drugs’ abuse responsible for rising penis fracture among youths – Urologists
By Francesca Hangeior
The abuse of sex-enhancing drugs among Nigerian youths has become a source of concern for urologists.
The physicians attributed the negative trend to a combination of factors, including societal pressure, misinformation, and the quest for sexual prowess.
The experts lamented that the high rate of use of sex enhancers had been linked to a surge in cases of a fractured penis.
The male reproductive experts said the use of sex enhancers had become rampant in recent years, with many men seeking to enhance their sexual performance.
The physicians revealed that there was an increase in cases of fractured penis in recent years, particularly among young men who use sex enhancers.
They attributed the trend to societal pressure, noting that many men feel compelled to perform sexually to meet societal expectations.
A Consultant Urologist, Dr Gabriel Ogah, lamented that many young men, in an attempt to meet unrealistic expectations set by pornography and societal pressures, have turned to dangerous, self-administered drug dosages to prolong erections and enhance their sexual performance.
Ogah noted that the increasing fixation on penis size and prolonged sexual performance, especially influenced by pornography, had resulted in young men seeking out drugs and other unregulated methods to achieve these unrealistic standards.
He revealed that one of the most commonly abused substances was tramadol, a medication that is typically prescribed by doctors for pain relief or to treat conditions like premature ejaculation.
While the recommended dose for tramadol ranges between 50 and 100 milligrams, Ogah pointed out that many young men in Nigeria have been taking up to 1,000 milligrams, which is ten times the prescribed amount, in a bid to sustain erections for prolonged periods.
Due to these unregulated practices, the urologist said he has observed a concerning spike in the number of young men seeking medical attention for penile fractures.
“In the past four years, I have treated more cases of fractured penises than I did in the previous 30 years combined,” Ogah said.
While the rise in such injuries is not formally documented, the doctor noted that it has been a consistent observation in his practice.
“Penile fractures occur when an erection becomes overly rigid and the penis is subjected to physical trauma or stress. In cases where men take excessive doses of sex-enhancing drugs, the prolonged, unnaturally sustained erections can cause the penis to become as stiff as a ‘cassava stick’, making it prone to breaking under even minimal pressure.
“When a man’s erection lasts for several hours without subsiding, it can result in serious damage to the penile tissue, leading to fractures and in some cases, permanent impotence,” he explained.
Beyond the physical injuries, the urologist said the misuse of sex-enhancing drugs has other long-term consequences.
He stressed that even when medical intervention successfully reduces the prolonged erection, the damage caused by overstressing the penis can render a man impotent permanently.
Such outcomes, he warned, could be devastating for men in their prime years, many of whom are unaware of the potential risks of self-medication and unregulated drug use.
Ogah called for increased public education and awareness about the dangers of unsupervised drug use and the unrealistic expectations fueled by pornography.
He emphasised the importance of proper medical guidance when dealing with sexual health issues.
He also warned that the pursuit of exaggerated sexual performance could lead to long-lasting, irreversible damage.
Also, a consultant urologist, Dr. Emmanuel Eze, noted that misinformation about sex and sexual health was a major contributor to the trend in the use of sex enhancers.
He further noted that the quest for sexual prowess was a major driver of the trend.
“Many men want to be able to perform like porn stars, but this is not realistic. Sex is not just about performance; it’s about intimacy, connection, and pleasure.
“Many men believe that sex-enhancers can cure all their sexual problems, but this is not the case. Many of these substances can have serious side effects and can even lead to addiction,” he stated.
The urologist emphasised that the use of sex enhancers is not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle.
